P5 Homework – 2nd November 2016

P5 HOMEWORK

This week we will have Spelling and Numeracy homework. Your child should also be bringing home a reading book and they will be directed in school as to how much they should be reading each week.

Spelling

This week our spelling rule is doubling the final consonant to the root word before adding er or est.

bravest
later
wiser
ripest
finer
thinner
flattest
slimmer
fittest
hotter

At home, to help you learn this week’s rule we ask that you write your spelling words in alphabetical order. The children can complete this in their small yellow jotters. Enjoy!

A spelling test will be done throughout the term (not necessarily weekly) to test spelling rules from more than one week. This will be done through dictation where the words will be part of a sentence.

Numeracy

This week we would ask your child to play a game that will help them practise their adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing skills. The sheet has been attached below and your child’s class teacher will also explain how to play the game.

Topic

One more week to complete the topic work below.

Next Tuesday P5’s and 6’s will be visiting Dynamic Earth. In preparation for this visit we would ask your child to visit the website and watch the video using the link below. We would encourage them to explore the website and then design a poster to advertise Dynamic Earth. This should be aimed at someone who has never visited before. A4 paper will be supplied.
Reminder – the children will have two weeks to complete this task.
