P5 Homework – 16th November 2016

P5 HOMEWORK

This week we will have Spelling and Numeracy homework. Your child should also be bringing home a reading book and they will be directed in school as to how much they should be reading each week.

Spelling

This week our spelling rule is adding ly.

  • This suffix begins with a consonant and therefore the root words do not change unless the root word ends in y, in which case y becomes i
  • e.g.    rapid +ly         tidy + i + ly
  • If root word ends in l then simply add ly (gradual + ly – gradually – double l)

loudly
cheaply
foolishly
rapidly
silently
secretly
bravely
gradually
happily
easily
tidily
quietly

At home, to help you learn this week’s rule we ask that you create a secret code for your words. The instructions are on the sheet of A4 you have been given. Please complete your words on the back of this sheet.

A spelling test will be done throughout the term (not necessarily weekly) to test spelling rules from more than one week. This will be done through dictation where the words will be part of a sentence.
