P1 Home Learning- Week beginning 19.11.18

Literacy & Reading

Your child will have a reading book sent home. Please read a little each evening and ask your child questions about what is happening in the story?, who are the characters? How would you feel if…?

Please also work on reading Block One tricky words at home. See previous post for details.

We are continuing to revise all sounds taught this term but identifying beginning, middle and end sounds in 3 letter words, building and blending words and writing CVC words in different ways.

Numeracy & Maths

This week we have been learning to:

  • understand what ‘symmetrical’ means.
  • creating and recognising symmetrical shapes and images.
  • counting in steps of 2 backwards and forwards by using a visual number line to help us.
  • add two quantities together by counting on.
  • describe the position of an item using 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th… (ordinal numbers)

Home challenge: Select different toys and line them up. Ask an adult to point to the a toy. Which position is it in? Can an adult point to the 4th toy? Can you point to the 5th toy?

Other Curricular Areas

We have been learning to:

  • name the planets in our solar system (P1S)
  • understand what gravity is linked to our Forces topic (P1F). We made helicopters to help us explain our learning.
  • discussing our likes and dislikes to three different books. (Bookbug visit)
  • singing as a group in preparation for our Nativity
  • read for enjoyment

Learning Through Play

We have been learning to:

  • create our own varieties of play doh
  • using sand to order quantities
  • create space themed images (P1S)
  • looking at star constellations and building our own. Can you spot any star patterns at night?
