P4B Reflective Friday 1.2.19

Here is what we have learned this week

This week we have focused  again on our addition skills, we have done a lot of work on the strategies we can use to make adding in our head easier. We had fun playing a game called guess my number on the topmarks website.  We created  ‘How to’ videos on the IPADS to show our understanding of the algorithm method. They were fantastic and the children were able to explain the steps of the sum with great detail.

We also looked at the importance of timetables and linked it to our previous work on time. This was a tricky concept for the children and many of them were keen to look at bus and train timetables at home.

I have also attached a copy of our levels  on beat thats for you to practice at home.

Things to do at home –

In reading we are continuing to focus on comprehension and understanding. The class used their reading books to complete another visualiser.

In writing we looked back at our descriptive pieces on a winters scene. We self assessed against the success criteria identifying something that we were happy with and something that needed a bit more work. We then up levelled the writing and wrote a final copy. These are wonderful and look great on the wall. It makes you cold just reading them.

In spelling this week we re visited some of our previous tricky words.

It was our second week of swimming and the children are loving it, our instructors have been ever so impressed with our effort and determination. They have commented on how respectful and well mannered we are. Well done P4!

We researched about viking food with our learning  partner and used this to create our own Viking menu. Lots of smoked fish and salted meats as well as fresh fruit and Norse oatcakes were some of the things we chose. We practised our note taking skills as part of the learning came from a powerpoint.

Have a great weekend
