Week beginning 09.09.19

We have had a busy week in P3C. We have been reading our class novel, The BFG and have linked our learning to it. We used the ipads to find information and facts about Roald Dahl and we have started to plan our class assembly.

In Literacy we have been focusing on summarising as a reading skill – this week we focused on using questions to help us. We have also been practising our spelling words in lots of active ways. Please see the spelling list published earlier in the week for this week’s words to be practising at home.

In maths we made 3D shapes with Mrs Bailey and have been working on addition strategies with Miss Collyns. This week we looked at doubles and near doubles to help us get faster at mental maths.

Making 3D shapes with Mrs Bailey
Exploring different strategies to find the answer
Splitting up numbers as an addition strategy
Using different strategies to show our thinking

In P.E. we continued developing our hockey skills. This week we were focusing on our teamwork and trying to control the ball. We also practised our Norwegian Dance for the class assembly!

The class assembly is on Friday 27th September. The children are welcome to come dressed as a Roald Dahl character for assembly. This could be as simple as having a gold ticket with them to be Charlie.

Home Learning

The children will all have a reading book to be read at home with follow-up comprehension tasks done in class.

A useful website for practising doubles is this one: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button and then choose the option for ‘doubles’.

Enjoy the long weekend!
