Learning Together At Home Wednesday 22 April

Hello everyone, I hope that you all managed to enjoy the Easter holidays and had some time in the sunshine. I continued to enjoy my walks in the Braids, it was lovely to see many of you on your walks too. I was lucky enough to see two deer when I was on one of my walks. They stared at me for a few seconds before they ran off.

 

Here are the literacy activities for today.

LIZARDS

The Lost Key by Roderick Hunt

Take a new page in your jotter and write the title of your book and today’s date. Remember to take a new line for every question and answer in full sentences using the question in your answer.

The following questions are about pages 1 to 16. Make sure you have read these pages before you answer the questions.

What did Kipper do to try and make the key glow again?

Why did Kipper not notice that the key had fallen out his pocket?

Look at page 4, how do you think Kipper is feeling?

Why would mum not let Kipper look for the key?

Read page 7, why was the man cross?

How did the two boys break the greenhouse window?

Look at page 12, if you were Chip or Biff, what do you think you would say to Kipper? Draw a little cartoon with a space bubble coming out of Chip or Biffs’ mouth replying to Kipper after he told them he has lost the key.

Read through your book with someone at home. Practise any words you are finding tricky.

Talk about these questions with someone at home, they are about the pages 1 to 8 :

Look at page 1, how do you think the shopkeeper is feeling?

Why did Dad have to help Kipper?

Look at pages 4 and 5, what were the class doing?

Look at page 7, what are the two boys doing?

How do you think Kipper is feeling?

Think about PE at school, what is your favourite activity in PE? Draw a picture of yourself doing this activity. Underneath the picture write what activity you are doing. Check your spelling with someone at home first.

It’s sports day at William’s school. Draw yourself taking part in your favourite activity at sports day.

The following questions are all about chapter three. Make sure you have read this chapter. Take a new page in your jotter, write the title of your book at the top and today’s date. Take a new line for every answer and remember to write in sentences using the question in your answer.

Why did Clive not go inside the shop? (page 24)

Which job did Clive decide to do next? (page 25)

The lady with the dog said Clive wasn’t very old or big so why did she give him the job?(page 26)

What problems did Clive have with Toodles?

Why did the lady not want Clive to continue with the job?

look at page 32 again. Clive made a poster to advertise himself cleaning cars. Think of something you could do to earn some money and design your own poster.

Look at page 1. Why do you think mum wanted eggs? ( begin your sentence like this – Mum wanted eggs because……….)

Look at page 6. Why did Midge put the bag down? ( Midge put the bag down because……)

Look at page 9. How did the eggs get smashed? ( The eggs got smashed because…………..)

Look at page 11. How did Midge’s mum feel? ( Midge’s mum felt…………)

Have you baked or helped to make anything? Draw a picture of what you made and write a sentence about it.

Read chapter three ‘They do it for fun’.

Take a new page in your jotter, write the title at the top and today’s date. Remember to take a new line for every question and to answer in full sentences using the question in your answer.

When Suzy first looked at the sea on her second morning with Aunty Jo, why did she decide that there would be no way of getting to France that day?

What makes Suzy realise that she is not going to get to France with the surfers?

What were some of the things the surfers did to make a fuss of Suzy?

How did Aunty Jo know that Suzy had been in the sea?

Look at the illustration on pages 28 and 29. The illustrations in the book are pencil drawings without any colour. Do you like them? Answer in a sentence giving a reason for your answer.

Have a go at illustrating the final part of chapter three when Suzy returns to Aunty Jo’s house. Only use a pencil but try shading parts of your drawing. Don’t forget to include Biff!
