Good Morning P4J!  

Below are the tasks for Thursday.

L.I We are learning our to recall our times tables quickly and accurately.

Daily Morning Challenge: Complete the Speed Tables sheet below.

Mild – Complete 1 speed table.

Spicy – Complete 2 speed tables.

Hot – Complete 2 speed tables and time each one. Try to improve your speed on your second table.


L.I We are learning to spell unfamiliar words using our spelling rule.

Spelling rule for the week: to make a plural form to words ending in ‘f’ or ‘fe’.

Words ending in f/fe form their plurals by changing the ‘f’ to a ‘v’ and adding ‘es’.

Daily Spelling Activity Task: choose a different spelling activity from the pack that you have at home and remember to Look, Cover, Write, Check.

Spicy – loaf/loaves, wife/wives, scarf/scarves, shelf/shelves, leaf/leaves, wolf/wolves, elf/elves

Hot – knife/knives, calf/calves, half/halves, life/lives, thief/thieves, hoof/hooves, self/selves, yourself/yourselves

Tricky words – more most

Extra Challenge Choose 4 tricky words from your ‘high frequency’ list and practise these words using one of your spelling activities.


L.I – We are learning our times tables.

Daily Maths Task:

Mild: Complete the first two function machines.

Spicy: Complete the first four function machines

Hot: Complete all function machines.

Extra challenge: create your own function machine.


L.I: We are learning to write instructions.

Daily Literacy Task: Your task is to write instructions to make your favourite sandwich or meal. 


  • Create a ‘How To ….’ title.
  •  Write an opening sentence to encourage someone to make it.
  •  Create a list of what you will need (ingredients and equipment).
  •  Number each step and add an illustration for at least one step.

Star Steps:

  •  Your instructions should be simple and clear.
  • Write in time order.
  • Use time connections/openers (Next, Then, After that, Finally).
  •  Use ‘bossy’ verbs (get, place, eat, spread, mix, break, etc).

Read through your instructions at the end – do they make sense? Are they clear? Have you covered every step?

Weekly Reading Task: 

Remember to read a book for pleasure every day for 30 minutes.
