# Tuesday 5th May 2020 – Learning at Home Together

Good Morning P4J 🙂 I hope that you enjoyed your long weekend!

Below are the tasks for Tuesday.

Remember to complete the tasks set on Sumdog.

L.I We are learning to partition numbers.

Daily Morning Challenge: Partition each number in to units, tens, hundreds and thousands.

For example, 493 = 400 + 90 + 3

Mild –  748    372    459    738     462    918    172    372

L.I We are learning to spell unfamiliar words using our spelling rule.

Spelling rule for the week: to break words up into 2 syllables. Remember to put your hand under your chin and say the word. Each time your chin touches your hand is a syllable.

A syllable is ‘closed’ when there is one or more consonants after the vowel (For example: ham/per, am/ber).

Every syllable must contain one vowel sound.

Daily Spelling Activity Task: choose a different spelling activity from the pack that you have at home and remember to Look, Cover, Write, Check. Can you break these words into syllables? For example turnip = tur / nip (2 syllables).

Spicy – turnip cactus amber midnight hamper planet packet actress jacket vanish

Hot – context window absent construct extract central expand vintage frantic spillage

Tricky words – which witch

L.I – We are learning the 5 times table.

Spicy – Complete Questions 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Hot –  Complete all questions.

Extra challenge: Write down the 5 times table and complete the multiplication fact families.

For example  – 5 x 4 = 20 ,    5 x 40 = 200     5 x 400 = 2000

L.I: We are learning to find evidence in a text.

Choose a character trait from the list below to describe the main character in your reading book. Find pieces of evidence in your reading book to support your choice of character trait.

For example, if we think back to our class novel ‘The Legend of Spud Murphy’, I could choose the main character Will and the character trait ‘mischievous’. My evidence could be that Marty swapped books around in the library to upset Spud Murphy.

Character Traits: courageous, mischievous, adventurous, witty, determined, timid, resourceful, bold, curious

Mild: Find 2 pieces of evidence in your text.

Spicy: Find 3 pieces of evidence in your text.

Hot: Find 4 pieces of evidence in your text.

Now display your research in a mindmap.

Remember to read a book of your choice for pleasure every day for 30 minutes.
