Good morning everyone and welcome back.

Below you will find your numeracy and literacy tasks for today and tomorrow morning. As always if you have any questions I will be on teams throughout the day to help.

I have also included an exciting research project for us to do. The details are at the bottom of the post, please make sure you read them.

Mental maths

To practice the work on fractions we did last week. I have set two SUMDOG challenges, one which focuses on equivalent fractions and the other is on simplifying. I have set a end date of Sunday for these challenges so please have a go at them both over the next few days.



We are continuing on with simplifying fractions today.

Success criteria

I can use my skills of division to simplify the fraction.

I can divide the numerator and the denominator by the same value

I can simplify the fraction as many times as possible.

Try the two worksheets below, the answers are on page 2 so make sure you dont look at that  by mistake. Once you have finished then if you please self mark your work.

Fantastic    (We are going to simplify a fraction as many times as possible, this is Tricky)

For example –  Simplify fraction  6/18     = you can divide both the numerator and denominator by 6, 3 or 2. You should use the highest number to divide with as it saves you time. See below

6/3 = 2 and 18/3=6  = 2/6   – Next step – 2/2 = 1 and 6/2 = 3 = So the fraction simplified is 1/3

6/6 = 1 and 18/6 = 3         Therefore 6/18 can be simplified to 1/3     ( QUICKER )

Learning Intention

We are learning to form various joins accurately.

Please continue to practice your handwriting. I uploaded a powerpoint that will remind you of the single joins which you could share. It is in our team page, the folder literacy resources. It is called cursive letter formation

Also I have a link to a good website which helps you form continuous joins and you can create your own worksheets.


Make sure you are trying with your other literacy work such as writing to use a cursive style.


I have attached your words for the week as well as some tasks for you to do each day to practice.

ERIC Reading

Please try to spend time each day completing silent reading with a book of your choice.

For some more fun Cressida Cowell is reading a chapter each day from her books on her YouTube channel if you enjoy her stories.

Word of the Day – “Glum”

There is a new word every day. Copy each word into the back page of your jotter, which will become a word bank.  Find the definition and record this too.

Additional task:  Write a paragraph using the sentence starter below

Primary 5 History project

As I mentioned above we have created something fun, which all 3 classes are going to do. This term we had planned to history topic in school. Due to current circumstances, the P5 team thought it would be best to let you carry this out as a personal project at home. Here is a document explaining everything you need to know. If anyone would like to share their project, please add it to the folder within teams or email it to me by Friday 19th June. This is a long time away so I will post regular reminders.
