RME – Islam

Hello P4J! I hope you are all well and have been enjoying the sunshine this week.

Today we are going to develop our knowledge of Islam.

Islam is the second largest religion in the world with over 1.6 billion followers. It’s followers (called Muslims) believe there is only one god, who they call Allah.

They believe in special messengers between Allah and the people, called prophets. The last of these messengers was called Muhammad and he is very important to Muslims. They say ‘peace be upon him’ after saying his name. He was born in the city of Mecca, which is in Saudi Arabia.

Task 1

Look at a map of the world to see if you can find Saudi Arabia. Where is the United Kingdom on the map?

Now look at the map below and see if you can find Mecca.

The Five Pillars of Islam

Muslims believe that there are 5 duties that every Muslim must do in their life.

Find out more about the Islam faith and the Five Pillars of Islam in the clip below.

Task 2

Create a poster or a mind map showing your understanding of Muslim beliefs. You should use your own words as much as possible and include illustrations (pictures) in your work.

To help you out a little, here are the names of the each of the five pillars:

Shahadah

Salaah

Zakat

Sawm

Hajj

I hope you all have a lovely day!
