Mental maths – Measure

I have a set a SUMDOG challenge for you to work on today which focuses on converting measure. If you dont get it finished today I have left it open until next Tuesday. Good luck its a tricky one.

We are going to work on another maths mystery today, both levels of this begin with a data handling question first, this is the next topic area we will be looking at. The answers are at the end of the document on page 7 and 8 for spectacular and 6,7 and 8 for fantastic, so please make sure you dont accidentally look at these pages as it will ruin the fun of solving the mystery.

Learning Intention

We are learning to use our maths skills to solve a word problem

the-mystery-of-the-super-snack – spectacular

the-mystery-of-the-naughty-gnome – fantastic

Today we are going to focus once again on the skills required to write persuasive letters.

Read through the Powerpoint I have uploaded to our teams page, it is in resources literacy folder and is called Persuasive Writing new invention. It has all the information you need to begin this task. Make sure you read through it in detail and understand how to best use the skills you have developed. We have already practised advertising a new invention, the hoverbike. For our persuasive letter I would like you to create a new invention which solves a problem. Your job is then to persuade a company Edinburgh Engineers to build it for you for a reduced rate.

Then use the planning sheet below, this will help you step by step to create the letter.

I have attached an example of a good persuasive letter which meets the success criteria. It is below.

When you have finished it would be great to see your letters, please upload them to the teams page in shared work literacy.

Learning Intention

We are learning to spell a set of words accurately using different activities

ERIC Reading

I have included the website for the Ickabog below, this is JK Rowling’s new fairytale where she is uploading chapters for free. I would really recommend it.

Please try to spend time each day completing silent reading with a book of your choice.

Word of the Day – “overpowering”

I will be introducing a word of the day, every day. Copy each word into the back page of your jotter, which will become a word bank.  Find the definition and record this too.

Additional task:  Write a paragraph using the sentence starter below

The smell of Plato’s breath was overpowering…

Hope you have a good day and remember to check back tomorrow
