Hello everyone, this is what we have been learning this week:
NUMERACY AND MATHS
In mental maths we practised using different subtraction strategies.
Our main maths activities focused on telling the time on analogue and digital clocks. We re-visited quarter past and quarter to and discussed 0’clock and half past on digital clocks.
We used a textbook to answer questions on time. The class tried very hard to set their work out carefully, making sure that their writing was neat and they had a heading and date at the top of their page. They did a really good job.
We also practised saying the months of the year trying to make sure we knew the order they came in.
THINGS TO DO AT HOME
Practise the months of the year. If you can say them in the correct order, ask someone at home to ask you some questions, for example:
What month comes after May?
What is the month before December? etc
A game to play
We practised asking questions about our books in our reading groups.
We identified nouns as part of our grammar work.
In writing we used the mynah bird characters we created last week to write a story about them. We talked about an interesting story having a beginning, middle and end and wrote a plan before we started.
THINGS TO DO AT HOME
Try to identify some nouns in your reading book or in another book you are enjoying.
OPTIONAL HOME LEARNING TASK
We were talking about trying to make our classroom look festive and decided we would like to have some decorations hanging from the ceiling. If you would like to make a decoration from materials you have at home, your contribution would be very welcome. Please bring your decoration in some time in the next two weeks and we will hang it up.
ANTI- BULLYING WEEK
We have been doing a number of activities to help us identify what bullying means and who we can talk to about this. We continue to reinforce how important it is to be kind to one another in our words and actions.
We painted mynah birds. We looked carefully at the shape and the colour of the mynah birds on the Smartboard and drew the outline using pencils first.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
