What we have been learning this week – 20/11/20

In reading this week, we have been focusing on visualising. We started off picking out main events from our class novel ‘The Creakers’ and drawing a picture of what we could see in our heads while we ready about this event. We also had to write a short paragraph about what happened and justify why it is a main event. We then carried out the same task on our reading books.

P5M had the opportunity to write a paragraph describing the characters that they created last week, focusing on describing their appearance, personality, smell and sound. Some of the characters included; Holly the fairy and Bendy the emotionless being.

Things to do at home –

See the progress record for this week’s reading pages. Try to pick out the main events and practise drawing a picture of them

Try reading forward and reading back to uncover the meaning of any unknown words in your book

Please see spelling document posted on Monday

Maths and Numeracy

This week in numeracy we have been focusing on multiplication. We have been doing a variety of mental maths games and activities to practise our times tables. We have been looking at the 4, 6 and 7 times tables throughout the week.

We learned how to calculate the area of triangle using: area = length x breadth ÷ 2.

Things to do at home –

Practise your times tables throughout the week to improve your mental multiplication. Focus on times tables you find tricky

Other curricular areas

· For our class assembly we reviewed our learning from our ‘Free the Forest’ topic. As a class we decided what we were going to say delivered it while holding our posters. We also presented our charities

· As it has been anti-bullying week we have spent time discussing as a class what bullying it and what we can do if it happens to use or people around us. We also introduced our worry box where we can write down anything we are worried about for Miss Mangan to see

Please note that our reading groups have changed. Half of the class will read on a Wednesday and half of the class will read in a Tuesday. See progress records for the date that reading should be done by.

Have a great weekend!
