I hope that everyone has had a good week. We had a wonderful, fun filled week in P.1 W. Primary 1 are settling into school well and it is great to see so many happy faces at the door every morning.
This week we have been learning:
We have been focusing on developing our fine motor skills which helps to lay the foundations for our handwriting. The children have been doing lots of mark making around the classroom; making shopping lists in the home corner and writing cards and letters for family and friends in the creative area. We also focused on practicing our cutting skills.
We finished hearing about everyone’s memory boxes this week. This has been such a lovely way to get to know a little bit more about each other and provided a great opportunity to practice our talking and listening skills. P.1 W have done a fantastic job in listening quietly to our friends talk and then putting our hands up to ask them questions.
This week we have been busy exploring numbers. We have been busy counting to 10 and then 20, and then backwards. We have also worked on counting forwards and backwards from different starting points. We have also been working on recognising numbers and dot patterns up to 10. We have played lots of games, used number lines and songs to help us with this.
Primary 1 have really enjoyed starting PE this week. This week we started on our movement topic. We played several games to help develop spatial awareness, moving at different speeds and in different ways. The children especially enjoyed pretending to move like different jungle animals!
We have also had lots of fantastic learning through play this week. Here are some of the highlights!
Construction area – helps to develop skills in creative thinking, problem solving and team work. This week we have had garages, marble runs, race tracks and zoos.
Loose parts play – some wonderful work spotted in the loose parts corner.
