Hello and Happy Friday P2!

Literacy

  • Sound of the week: “ow”
  • Dictation: low, row, mow, sow, bow, show
  • Hold the sentence:  I row the boat
  • Tricky Words: revision of all
  • Writing “Included”
  • Our writing ‘Star Steps’ for Term 1 are:
  • Capital letters
  • Finger spaces
  • Full stops
  • Sometimes learners will also receive an individual Star Step to support their learning
  • Handwriting – cursive and pre-cursive writing practice. This includes drawing, colouring in and cutting to promote hand strength and pencil control.

Reading

  • Reading/Literacy activities in class
  • Reading comprehension and instruction activities as a whole class and in our groups.
  • Reading out loud with our reading group
  • BEAR Time: Be Excited About Reading (independent reading time)
  • Spelling games to practice the long words in our books
  • Completing a book review – this helps us to develop critical thinking skills  

Maths/Numeracy

  • Revisiting addition.
  • PACE addition challenge
  • Place value
  • Discussing place value and the importance of where the numbers are (tens and ones).  

Other Curricular Areas

  • Health and Well-being: ‘One kind word’ Discussing what it means to be kind and creating some artwork.
  • PE – Yoga and fitness – we now have access to the hall for PE once per week
  • PE in the hall – ball skills
  • Winter art: This is now displayed in our windows for you to enjoy!
  • Fine Motor Skills – lots of learners are enjoying following step by step drawing instructions.

P2 Mogs

  • Christmas Party: we are having our Christmas Party on Wednesday. Children are welcome to wear party clothes to school that day. Please be mindful that your child will be going out at break and lunch wearing their party clothes
  • Children are welcome to bring a snack and drink for the party!
  • This week we have a new ‘Kindness’ display……..
  • We have also enjoyed some Christmas crafts……..

P2 Ladybirds

  • Christmas Party: we are having our Christmas Party on Tuesday. Children are welcome to wear party clothes to school that day. Please be mindful that your child will be going out at break and lunch wearing their party clothes
  • Children are welcome to bring a snack and drink for the party!
  • We enjoyed some Christmas craft this week for our class Winter Art display….
  • We had so much fun watching the Pantomime of Cinderella on Thursday afternoon – Oh now we didn’t, Oh yes we did!!

Looking forward to next week

  • Our new sound will be: “oo” (book, cook, look)
  • Our writing will be titled “December”
  • We will continue with place value and addition.

Extra Information/ polite reminders

  • Learning Stories are coming home today. We hope you enjoy seeing a snapshot of some learning. Please add your comment to the ‘comments’ sheet and return the Learning Story to school by the 10th Dec – thanks!
  • A little reminder about starting times (P2M 8:45, P2L 8:55). The doors won’t be opened until the allocated time, as adults are not always in the classrooms at this time, please do not leave children to wait on their own for the doors to be opened.
  • Home-learning: if you are keen to do a little extra at home the areas you could support in are; reading, tricky words and dictation
  • Please remember to keep reading books at home Mon to Wed – returning them to school on Thursday
  • As the weather is getting cooler, please ensure your child comes to school in an appropriate coat.
