Reflective Friday – 14/01/21

Hello and welcome back to everyone! I hope that you all had a lovely break. It has been great settling back into school, catching up and hearing about what everyone has been up to during the holidays. We have Miss Campbell from the nursery working with us to over the next few weeks which is exciting. We have lot of new learning planned for the next few weeks!

Literacy –

Some children will receive new a blue homework sheet today. This contains some new vocabulary for the next stage of our reading scheme. . It would be great if you could support your child at home by practicing these together.

We have been focusing on revising our single sounds over this week. This has involved recognising and saying the sound and being able to form the corresponding letter correctly. We have also been focusing on building CVC words with our known single sounds.

In handwriting this week we focused on correctly forming the m sound.

In writing this week we wrote about “Things I can do.” We have lots of talented pupils in Primary 1 – we had lots of dancing, bike riding and drawing.

Maths –

We have started a new focus for the next few weeks on Money. We have begun by focusing on identifying and recognising the following coins: 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2. Our new classroom shop has been really helpful in giving us a practical context in which to practice these skills.

We have also continued with our SEAL programme.

Health and Wellbeing

  • With Burns night fast approaching our Indoor PE focus for this week was on on Scottish dancing.
  • In Outdoor PE our focus is on developing fitness.
  • We have been continuing to do our Daily Mile.
  • We have continued with Diversity – part of our whole school focus. This week our focus was on Racism. We explored the meaning of racism and discussed how we can work to stop racism.

Other curricular areas –

  • We swapped the bricks with the other P1 class. We have been enjoying having these back and have been doing some fantastic learning. There has been measuring, estimating, counting, lots of co-operation and some wonderfully imaginative stories.
  • We have been learning about electricity: so far we have investigated how to stay safe when using electricity and the different sources of electricity.
  • We have been practicing our French greetings.
  • In Outdoor Learning, we discussed how to stay safe in preparation for our trip to the woods next week.

Things to remember:

  • Miss Dowds will no longer be teaching the class on Thursdays and instead we will now have Mrs Haynes on a Tuesday.
  • We will be visiting the woods next Friday morning so please ensure that your child comes equipped with a warm jacket and waterproof footwear.
  • Our PE days are on Monday and Tuesday. Please ensure that your child comes dressed appropriately.
  • Please ensure your child has a full change of clothes in school.
  • Termly targets will be published on the Learning Journals next Friday (21/01).
