P2M and P2L Class Blog 28.01.2022

Hello and Happy Friday! 


  • Sound of the week: “oy” 
  • Dictation: toy, boy, coy, Roy, joy, enjoy 
  • Hold the sentence: Roy has a new toy 
  • Tricky Words: revision of all 
  • Writing “My Favourite Scottish Things”. 
  • Writing: using bullet points to write a list   
  • Our writing ‘Star Steps’ for Term 2 are: 
  • Capital letters, finger spaces, full stops (non-negotiables)  
  • Using different types of punctuation 
  • Using commas 
  • Using bullet points  
  • Sometimes learners will also receive an individual Star Step to support their learning 
  • Handwriting – assessment of  cursive letter formation  
  • Handwriting – cursive and pre-cursive writing practice. This includes drawing, colouring in and cutting to promote hand strength and pencil control.  


  • Reading/Literacy activities in class  
  • Reading Scottish poems  
  • Exploring Scots language as part of Scottish Week 
  • Drawing a picture to match the poem 
  • Completing a poem review – this helps us to develop critical thinking skills   


  • Revising different addition strategies

  • Money – role play – visiting the shop to buy some Scottish food!

P2 Mogs 

  • Buckstone Buzz……It was our turn to share achievements with the whole school at Assembly! We shared one of our Scottish Poems – thank you Hera! 
  • Everyone who wanted to, read their favourite poem out loud to the class – well done!  
  • This week P2M enjoyed paper tartan in class – the new display looks amazing……. 
  • We’ve been leaning new ‘oy’ words……. 
  • We also enjoyed some Highland Dancing with Miss Mulholland! 
  • We were tasting some Scottish food and giving our opinion, yummy………. 

P2 Ladybirds 

Ladybirds have had so much fun during Scottish week!  

  • We designed our own tartan on Monday… 
  • For our P.E on Tuesday we had lots of fun learning some highland dancing and Scottish country dancing… 
  • The children drew portraits of Robert Burns which look amazing in the classroom… 
  • Some of the children built Edinburgh Castle in the brick area! 

We have had so much fun during Scottish week, finished off with our Scottish food tasting! Sliante…

Extra Information/ polite reminders 

  • Pokemon Trading Cards – children have been enjoying trading their cards at break and lunch time. Unfortunately, this has now become an issue in class and is taking away from learning time. We have now asked children to keep their cards at home – thank you for your support with this.
  • Interactive watches/watches with games – we politely ask you to keep these at home. Recently these have become a distraction to learning in class and are also having an impact on socialising and building friendships within class. We really appreciate your support with this.  
  • A little reminder about starting times (P2M 8:45, P2L 8:55). Please wait on the playground with your children until the doors are opened to avoid congestion. The doors won’t be opened until the allocated time, as adults are not always in the classrooms at this time.  
  • Home-learning: if you are keen to do a little extra at home the areas you could support in are; reading, tricky words and dictation 
  • Uniform: please label all items of school uniform  
  • Hats: we have had lots of requests to help find lost hats, gloves, scarves – we don’t have a school lost property box. We have our ‘Too Hot Box’ in class. Other places these items could be are; trays, bag box, cloakroom or clothes boxes (below coats pegs). If your child has checked all these places there is nowhere else to look.  We have a few items in the ‘Too Hot Box’ with no names – we will continue to put these outside the classroom door on a chair for you to check 
  • Learning Stories – please return your child’s blue folder to school
