We’ve had another fun week of learning – especially our P2 trip to Dynamic Earth!  

A special thank you all the adults that helped to make our trip possible; office staff, Mrs Murray, Miss Mulholland, Mrs Lee and Mr Millar – we really apricate your time and support. Also, a massive thank you and well done to all our P2 learners – we are so proud of them, such wonderful manners and enthusiasm on the day. They represented themselves and Buckstone so well – even the Dynamic Earth staff commented on how polite and well-mannered they are!

The Learners in P2 have planted their very own tomato seeds at school as part of Health Week and our class topic, Looking After Plants and Animals. Each child was also given a ‘Tomato Grow Chart’ to keep at home. Step 8 directs your child to bring any tomatoes that have grown back to school – at this stage please keep your tomatoes at home and continue to follow and enjoy the rest of the steps! We have other tomato plants at school to continue/complete the journey (all going well with the growing process!) We will keep you up to date via the class blog with which step we are on in class. 

  • Tomato Grow Chart: steps 1 and 2 achieved. Don’t forget at add stickers 1 and 2 to your chart!

Extra Information/ polite reminders

In the morning, P2 doors open at 08.50 and will close at 08.55. If the doors are closed when you arrive, please go with your child to the office door (please don’t knock on the classroom door to be let in). We ask you do this, so your child is registered properly, in case of any emergencies. Thank you for your support and understanding.

We kindly ask children to keep ‘show and tell’ items at home. We hope you appreciate this can very quickly get out of control. It is not always possible to share any on a given day or get through the volume that is coming in (and sadly some children end up disappointed). There will be planned for opportunities to share learning and achievements.

It was lovely to talk about all the children’s amazing learning at Parents Consultations – thank you for being so supportive!

Good Luck to all our Buckstone Learners performing in their dance show Thursday, Friday and Saturday – remember to smile and enjoy every moment, you are all super stars!

Next Thursday (07.04.2022) P2 will be recording their performance of ‘This Is Me’.  We are inviting the children to wear clothes that they feel like themselves in – dress to suit their personality!   • We have been working hard on practising for our show, which we are recording next Thursday, and the children are excited about getting together with P2M for this!

  • The children worked really hard on writing independently this week about their favourite fruits. They chose either commas or bullet points to list their fruits.

P2 Mogs

  • This week P2M enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day. In the morning, the children enjoyed participating in a circle time to share their favourite books with one another. In the afternoon, the children played ‘Book Bingo’, where they had to think of different books to answer the bingo questions. Finally, they made their own bookmarks to take home and use in their reading books!

P2 Ladybirds

  • We have had a great week in P2L. On Tuesday we enjoyed sharing our favourite pancake toppings and finding out about Shrove Tuesday.
  • Everyone looked great in their costumes for World Book Day on Thursday! As a class we are beginning to create our own story which is exciting!

Thank you for all your support and effort with our request for photos from the February break – we really appreciate it!  

Literacy

  • Sound of the week: “au”
  • Dictation: fault, vault, Paul, haul, launch, Laura
  • Hold the sentence:  It was Paul’s fault the rocket did not launch.
  • Tricky Words: review of current block (reading)
  • Tricky Words: spelling
  • Writing “February Holiday”.
  • Writing: using commas to write a list  
  • Our writing ‘Star Steps’ for Term 2 are:
  • Capital letters, finger spaces, full stops (non-negotiables)
  • Using different types of punctuation
  • Using commas/bullet points
  • Sometimes learners will also receive an individual Star Step to support their learning
  • Handwriting – assessment of cursive letter formation
  • Handwriting – cursive and pre-cursive writing practice. This includes drawing, colouring in and cutting to promote hand strength and pencil control.

Reading

  • ORT books
  • Reading/Literacy activities in class  
  • Book Quiz – comprehension questions linked to book
  • Completing a book review – this helps us to develop critical thinking skills

  • Art – our focus this term is art inspired by Monet. This week we explored landscapes at different times of the day – looking at how the colours change
  • Health and Well-being: P2 are now doing the ‘Daily Mile’.  Daily Mile does not make up part of our PE time.

  • Science – this week we have explored animals and habitats

Word(le) of the Week!

P2 Mogs

  • This week P2M explored landscapes with water colours – this is linked to our term 2 art topic ‘Monet’. We explored how the same landscape can look different at different times of the day (sunrise, sunset and night). We used our pencil drawing as a plan to recreate the same landscape with water colours………
  • We also have a new role play area – we have had lots of fun in our class restaurant……
  • Using items such as corks, pegs, pasta, curtain hoops, stones and dominoes allows the children to use their imaginations and be creative! Role play areas also support the children to explore literacy, numeracy, communication and teamwork. 

P2 Ladybirds

  • This week, as part of Fairtrade Fortnight, Ladybirds explored what the Fairtrade logo means and why it is on some foods.
  • We created some lovely black pen drawings for our display “Get Active”.
  • Thank you to those who sent in photos from the holiday – I have used them in a class display 😊
  • This week we added some dressing up and puppets into our role play area and the children have had lots of fun dressing up!

We’ve had a lovely start to Scottish week today in class! I just wanted to let you know that we have managed to get a Loose Parts slot tomorrow as we missed ours last week!

  • Hold the sentence: I can dig in the soil.
  • Tricky Words: revision of all
  • Writing “My Favourite Foods” using commas.

  • Completing a book review – this helps us to develop critical thinking skills  

Maths/Numeracy

  • Revising different addition strategies

P2 Mogs

  • This week P2M enjoyed Outdoor Loose Parts Play! We had lots of fun, building dens, making waterfalls, digging for bones, having tea parties and making water chutes! 

P2 Ladybirds

We have had another busy, fun, week in Ladybirds!

  • On Tuesday we had an interesting afternoon learning about the energy produced by wind turbines. We then made our own – take a peek at them in front of our classroom window…
  • We enjoyed a gymnastics lesson in the hall and practised controlled jumps off a bench with a good finish – maybe they can show you…
  • Ladybirds worked really hard in their writing lesson this week where we started to learn about how to use commas in a list.
  • We enjoyed some fresh air on Thursday afternoon and enjoyed playing games and climbing the trees…

Extra Information/ polite reminders

  • A little reminder about starting times (P2M 8:45, P2L 8:55). Please wait on the playground with your children until the doors are opened to avoid congestion. The doors won’t be opened until the allocated time, as adults are not always in the classrooms at this time.
  • Home-learning: if you are keen to do a little extra at home the areas you could support in are; reading, tricky words and dictation
  • Uniform: please label all items of school uniform
