Hello and Happy Friday! 

This week has been another busy week of learning and fun, here is a little of what we have been doing……. 

Literacy  

  • New Sounds: Final Blends – sp, ft, lk, nt, ng, nk 
  • Dictation: wasp, soft, milk, hunt, bang, chunk 
  • Hold the sentence: I bang my drum and sing my song. 
  • Dictation/Hold the Sentence: we are marking our own learning using ‘Pink for Think and Green for Great’. This is a fantastic way for learners to reflect on their progress and receive immediate feedback.  
  • Writing (Poems): This week we focussed on rhyming   
  • Our writing ‘Star Steps’ for Term 3 are: 
  • Capital letters, finger spaces, full stops (non-negotiables)  
  • Use connectives 
  • Use contractions 
  • Sometimes learners will also receive an individual Star Step to support their learning 
  • Handwriting – letter size/formation control  

Reading  

  • New reading books were sent home on Monday  
  • This week we explored non-fiction books 
  • The colour code for the non-fiction book is directly linked to the ORT level your child is currently working on  

Maths/Numeracy 

  • Counting in 3s/3 Times Table 
  • PACE challenge: counting in 3s  
  • Estimating 
  • Measure (length) 
  • Non-standard units (hands and feet)

Tomato Plants 

  • On Monday can learners please bring a recycled plant pot to re-pot their tomato plant. Please use the bottom of a plastic bottle or milk carton! 
  • Recycled pots – it would be very helpful if pots could come into school with your child’s name. Please feel free to decorate your pots! 
  • Once we have re-potted the plants they will be coming home, and we will achieve stickers 3 and 4!  
  • Tomato Grow Chart: steps 1 and 2 achieved. Don’t forget at add stickers 1 and 2 to your chart!

  • P2L joined us for PE in the hall on Thursday. We had a great time joining in with a fitness video on the big screen……….

The Learners in P2 have planted their very own tomato seeds at school as part of Health Week and our class topic, Looking After Plants and Animals. Each child was also given a ‘Tomato Grow Chart’ to keep at home. Step 8 directs your child to bring any tomatoes that have grown back to school – at this stage please keep your tomatoes at home and continue to follow and enjoy the rest of the steps! We have other tomato plants at school to continue/complete the journey (all going well with the growing process!) We will keep you up to date via the class blog with which step we are on in class.

In the morning, P2 doors open at 08.50 and will close at 08.55. If the doors are closed when you arrive, please go with your child to the office door (please don’t knock on the classroom door to be let in). We ask you do this, so your child is registered properly, in case of any emergencies. Thank you for your support and understanding.

We kindly ask children to keep ‘show and tell’ items at home. We hope you appreciate this can very quickly get out of control. It is not always possible to share any on a given day or get through the volume that is coming in (and sadly some children end up disappointed). There will be planned for opportunities to share learning and achievements.

It was lovely to talk about all the children’s amazing learning at Parents Consultations – thank you for being so supportive!

Good Luck to all our Buckstone Learners performing in their dance show Thursday, Friday and Saturday – remember to smile and enjoy every moment, you are all super stars!

Next Thursday (07.04.2022) P2 will be recording their performance of ‘This Is Me’.  We are inviting the children to wear clothes that they feel like themselves in – dress to suit their personality! The recording will be shared on our school YouTube channel – this is password protected (passwords will be shared via email on Friday 8th).

  • BEAR Time – we have also added extra reading time into our timetable. We now have BEAR (Be Excited About Reading) time on a Monday and Thursday. P2 Ladybirds

  • It has been lovely being back with the children this week after being off. I enjoyed speaking to you all at Parents consultations, thank you for your time and support.
  • Loose Parts – We enjoyed our Loose Parts session on Tuesday afternoon. The children had lots of fun imagining they were bakers and creating a fairy land.
  • We have been working hard on practising for our show, which we are recording next Thursday, and the children are excited about getting together with P2M for this!

Hello and Happy Friday!

Today P2M are saying goodbye to Miss Mulholland. It has been lovely having Miss Mulholland with us for the past 12 weeks – we will miss her! Miss Mulholland has helped the children in P2M to learn, grow in confidence and have lots of fun along the way – thank you! We wish her all the best for the future and hope she enjoys having her own class in August 😊

Literacy

  • Sounds of the week: “gr”, “pr” and “tr”
  • Dictation: gran, grip, prod, pram, trick, trot
  • Hold the sentence:  I played a trick on my gran.
  • Tricky Words: review of current block (reading)
  • Tricky Words: spelling
  • Writing “I can ask a question”
  • Writing: using question marks correctly
  • Our writing ‘Star Steps’ for Term 2 are:
  • Capital letters, finger spaces, full stops (non-negotiables)

P2 Mogs

  • P2M enjoyed playing Rounders at the Waterboard Field this morning!
  • This week, P2 have enjoyed learning about information handling. The children enjoyed tallying the colours of Smarties in a tube and producing a bar graph from this.
  • The children enjoyed some active spelling activities- using chalk to write their words on the playground and shaving foam to trace their words on the class desks!
  • P2M enjoyed learning about space this week! Take a look at our new display on the classroom window!

P2 Ladybirds

  • Welcome back to Miss Livsey – we missed you lots!
  • This week, P2L have enjoyed creating Monet styled pictures using paints and watercolours!
  • P2L enjoyed participating in some drama. This involved the children acting as ‘space cadets’ and taking on an adventure into outer space!
  • P2L enjoyed having P2M join them for PE. This was a great lesson which allowed the whole peer group to be brought together!
  • The class also enjoyed played musical instruments with Mrs McFarlan

Wordle of the Week

P2 Mogs

  • This week, P2 have enjoyed learning about information handling. The children liked surveying each other’s eye colour and then turning this information into a bar graph. We also coloured in pictures of our eyes to create a class bar graph as part of a new display.
  • P2 enjoyed rainbow spelling. This was a new activity to most learners, and they liked being able to use coloured pencil to write their new words.

P2 Ladybirds

  • This week, P2L have enjoyed continuing to practice for the P2 show.
  • They also enjoyed playing a 2 and 5 times table boardgame with Miss McGhee on Tuesday

  • We enjoyed some time outdoors on Wednesday afternoon.
  • The children worked really hard on writing independently this week about their favourite fruits. They chose either commas or bullet points to list their fruits.
