It was lovely to talk about all the children’s amazing learning at Parents Consultations – thank you for being so supportive!

Good Luck to all our Buckstone Learners performing in their dance show Thursday, Friday and Saturday – remember to smile and enjoy every moment, you are all super stars!

Next Thursday (07.04.2022) P2 will be recording their performance of ‘This Is Me’.  We are inviting the children to wear clothes that they feel like themselves in – dress to suit their personality!   • It has been lovely being back with the children this week after being off. I enjoyed speaking to you all at Parents consultations, thank you for your time and support.
  • Loose Parts – We enjoyed our Loose Parts session on Tuesday afternoon. The children had lots of fun imagining they were bakers and creating a fairy land.
  • We have been working hard on practising for our show, which we are recording next Thursday, and the children are excited about getting together with P2M for this!

Today P2M are saying goodbye to Miss Mulholland. It has been lovely having Miss Mulholland with us for the past 12 weeks – we will miss her! Miss Mulholland has helped the children in P2M to learn, grow in confidence and have lots of fun along the way – thank you! We wish her all the best for the future and hope she enjoys having her own class in August 😊

  • P2M enjoyed playing Rounders at the Waterboard Field this morning!
  • This week, P2 have enjoyed learning about information handling. The children enjoyed tallying the colours of Smarties in a tube and producing a bar graph from this.
  • The children enjoyed some active spelling activities- using chalk to write their words on the playground and shaving foam to trace their words on the class desks!
  • P2M enjoyed learning about space this week! Take a look at our new display on the classroom window!

P2 Ladybirds

  • Welcome back to Miss Livsey – we missed you lots!
  • This week, P2L have enjoyed creating Monet styled pictures using paints and watercolours!
  • P2L enjoyed participating in some drama. This involved the children acting as ‘space cadets’ and taking on an adventure into outer space!
  • P2L enjoyed having P2M join them for PE. This was a great lesson which allowed the whole peer group to be brought together!
  • The class also enjoyed played musical instruments with Mrs McFarlan

Wordle of the Week

P2 Mogs

  • This week, P2 have enjoyed learning about information handling. The children liked surveying each other’s eye colour and then turning this information into a bar graph. We also coloured in pictures of our eyes to create a class bar graph as part of a new display.
  • P2 enjoyed rainbow spelling. This was a new activity to most learners, and they liked being able to use coloured pencil to write their new words.

P2 Ladybirds

  • This week, P2L have enjoyed continuing to practice for the P2 show.
  • They also enjoyed playing a 2 and 5 times table boardgame with Miss McGhee on Tuesday

  • This week P2M enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day. In the morning, the children enjoyed participating in a circle time to share their favourite books with one another. In the afternoon, the children played ‘Book Bingo’, where they had to think of different books to answer the bingo questions. Finally, they made their own bookmarks to take home and use in their reading books!

P2 Ladybirds

  • We have had a great week in P2L. On Tuesday we enjoyed sharing our favourite pancake toppings and finding out about Shrove Tuesday.
  • Everyone looked great in their costumes for World Book Day on Thursday! As a class we are beginning to create our own story which is exciting!

  • This week P2M explored landscapes with water colours – this is linked to our term 2 art topic ‘Monet’. We explored how the same landscape can look different at different times of the day (sunrise, sunset and night). We used our pencil drawing as a plan to recreate the same landscape with water colours………
  • We also have a new role play area – we have had lots of fun in our class restaurant……
  • Using items such as corks, pegs, pasta, curtain hoops, stones and dominoes allows the children to use their imaginations and be creative! Role play areas also support the children to explore literacy, numeracy, communication and teamwork. 

P2 Ladybirds

  • This week, as part of Fairtrade Fortnight, Ladybirds explored what the Fairtrade logo means and why it is on some foods.
  • We created some lovely black pen drawings for our display “Get Active”.
  • Thank you to those who sent in photos from the holiday – I have used them in a class display 😊
  • This week we added some dressing up and puppets into our role play area and the children have had lots of fun dressing up!

Hello and Happy Friday! 

Literacy  

  • Sound of the week: “ow” 
  • Dictation: cow, bow, now, how, down, town 
  • Hold the sentence:  The cow can run down town. 
  • Tricky Words: revision of all (spelling) 
  • Writing “February Holiday”. 
  • Writing: using commas to write a list   
  • Our writing ‘Star Steps’ for Term 2 are: 
  • Capital letters, finger spaces, full stops (non-negotiables)  
  • Using different types of punctuation

  • Sometimes learners will also receive an individual Star Step to support their learning

Word(le) of the Week! 

P2 Mogs 

  • An in class assessment of ‘Tricky Words’ was carried out this week. Children were given a sheet with their individual progress – please use this sheet to practice reading/writing tricky words at home.
  • This week P2M explored landscapes – this is linked to our Term 2 art topic ‘Monet’. We explored how the same landscape can look different at different times of the day (sunrise, sunset and night) 

P2 Ladybirds 

  • On Monday we found out about the solar system and made posters with a fact we had found out.  
  • We celebrated “Safer Internet Day 2022” on Tuesday and read Digiduck and the Magic Castle which taught us about how to safely play games online.

Our understanding is that classes were added to Teams in case you have to learn from home/isolate – learning will not be posted by the class teacher on a daily basis as we are in class.  
  • It would be helpful if all children could have a change of clothes at school – especially when the weather is wet and the playground is muddy

P2 Mogs 

  • Buckstone Buzz……It was our turn to share achievements with the whole school at Assembly! We shared one of our Scottish Poems – thank you Hera! 
  • Everyone who wanted to, read their favourite poem out loud to the class – well done!  
  • This week P2M enjoyed paper tartan in class – the new display looks amazing……. 
  • We’ve been leaning new ‘oy’ words……. 
  • We also enjoyed some Highland Dancing with Miss Mulholland! 
  • We were tasting some Scottish food and giving our opinion, yummy………. 

P2 Ladybirds 

Ladybirds have had so much fun during Scottish week!  

  • We designed our own tartan on Monday… 
  • For our P.E on Tuesday we had lots of fun learning some highland dancing and Scottish country dancing… 
  • The children drew portraits of Robert Burns which look amazing in the classroom… 
  • Some of the children built Edinburgh Castle in the brick area! 

We have had so much fun during Scottish week, finished off with our Scottish food tasting! Sliante…

Extra Information/ polite reminders 

  • Pokemon Trading Cards – children have been enjoying trading their cards at break and lunch time. Unfortunately, this has now become an issue in class and is taking away from learning time. We have now asked children to keep their cards at home – thank you for your support with this.
  • Interactive watches/watches with games – we politely ask you to keep these at home. Recently these have become a distraction to learning in class and are also having an impact on socialising and building friendships within class. We really appreciate your support with this.  
  • A little reminder about starting times (P2M 8:45, P2L 8:55). Please wait on the playground with your children until the doors are opened to avoid congestion. The doors won’t be opened until the allocated time, as adults are not always in the classrooms at this time.  
  • Home-learning: if you are keen to do a little extra at home the areas you could support in are; reading, tricky words and dictation 
  • Uniform: please label all items of school uniform  
  • Hats: we have had lots of requests to help find lost hats, gloves, scarves – we don’t have a school lost property box. We have our ‘Too Hot Box’ in class. Other places these items could be are; trays, bag box, cloakroom or clothes boxes (below coats pegs). If your child has checked all these places there is nowhere else to look.  We have a few items in the ‘Too Hot Box’ with no names – we will continue to put these outside the classroom door on a chair for you to check 
  • Learning Stories – please return your child’s blue folder to school

P2 Mogs

  • This week P2M enjoyed Outdoor Loose Parts Play! We had lots of fun, building dens, making waterfalls, digging for bones, having tea parties and making water chutes! 

P2 Ladybirds

We have had another busy, fun, week in Ladybirds!

  • On Tuesday we had an interesting afternoon learning about the energy produced by wind turbines. We then made our own – take a peek at them in front of our classroom window…
  • We enjoyed a gymnastics lesson in the hall and practised controlled jumps off a bench with a good finish – maybe they can show you…
  • Ladybirds worked really hard in their writing lesson this week where we started to learn about how to use commas in a list.
  • We enjoyed some fresh air on Thursday afternoon and enjoyed playing games and climbing the trees…
