P1 Tricky Word Home Learning

Hi Everyone,

Your child will come home with a ‘Block One’ Tricky Word sheet by the end of this week. The words which are highlighted should be worked on at home. If your child can read these fluently then you can work on writing/spelling these.

We completed a tricky word assessment in class last week and we will complete another assessment in a few weeks time.

We would really appreciate your support with working on reading the highlighted words at home.

Thank you so much,

The P1 Team 🙂

P7 Children In Need Day Friday 16th November 2018

Well done to all the awesome Primary 7 children who organised and delivered a fun and inclusive Activity Day raising vital funds for Children In Need.  There were Free Activities where children could win a prize: Pin the Bandana on the Pudsey; Best Dressed Children per Stage.  There was also a Free Quiz: winners will be announced next week once the Primary 7s have had a chance to mark the answer sheets.

P7M planned a Guess Pudsey’s Birthday competition at 50p per guess.  We used a Random Date Generator to choose the date which was 30th November.  The winner was a girl in P5HW.  P7M presented her with her cuddly Pudsey backpack.

The Bake Sale organised by P7F was a massive sellout!  Not a crumb was left!  The Primary 7 children engaged with all the children and listened carefully to what their customers wanted and ensured they gave them the correct change.

P7R had queues out of the door for Face Painting.  The Artists did a superb job of turning their customers into tremendous Pudseys, Tigers, Cats, Lizards and Dragons!

Mrs Magill, Miss Fotheringham and Miss Robinson are incredibly proud of you all!

Have a wonderful weekend, have fun, be safe 🙂

P1 Home Learning: Week beginning 13.11.18

Nativity

We have started to prepare our ‘Nativity’ this week. Some children will have words to learn. These will come home next week. You will be sent home a letter which tells you the part your child has been allocated this year.

We may need your help at home but we will keep you updated on this blog if we require anything from home.

Literacy & Reading

We have been revisiting all sounds taught this week. We have been checking which sounds and tricky words we need to work on.

We will send home targeted, individual tricky word sheets home next week so you know which words to work on with your child.

We have also been focusing on reading aloud in your reading groups. Thank you for signing and commenting in your child’s reading record. (See previous post for information on reading at home)

We are sending out ‘Key Words’ to work on reading at home. You will find this in your child’s purple bag.

Please continue to revise sounds and tricky words covered at home. We really appreciate your support at home.

Below are some tricky words which we are finding tricky to read. Please work on these at home.

P6 Wee Sleepout!

Primary 6 have decided to support the local charity Social Bite!

Social Bite are on a mission to STOP homelessness in Scotland.

The way P6 are going to support them is by doing a Wee Sleepout, sleeping in the gym hall.

The reason we chose to do a sleepout rather than anything else is because every year Social Bite do a sleep in the park to raise money. We wanted to know what it would feel like to be sleeping out of our comfort zone with no mattress, and no technology, but it won’t be as bad as being homeless but it will still be hard.

Primary One Reading

Good morning everyone,

Reading has started coming home! How exciting!

A few top tips for supporting us and your child with reading:

  • We have included a little ‘Reading Guide’ inside each reading record to help you at home.
  • Please make sure that the reading clear folder is inside your child’s purple folder each day. We will be working on reading skills each day in class.
  • We will note the date and title of the book inside the reading record each week.
  • The reading record is a great way for us to communicate with you if there is something you should focus on with your child.
  • It would be fantastic if you could sign the reading record each week to show us that you have completed the reading home learning with your child.
  • If your child has done something particularly well with their reading/phonics at home then please comment in the reading record. For example: “Well done John, you read well this evening.” or “Jane sounded out ‘tap’ well tonight.”

Not every child will have a reading book home this week. We are staggering when reading books come home but we are ALL working on reading skills in class.

All children will have a reading book home by the end of next week.

If your child doesn’t have a reading book yet then please continue to build and blend the sounds in three letter words at home.

P1S Role Play Area

The children in P1S have chosen to have a ‘Sweet Shop’ as our role-play area. We are going to create a shop next week.

Please could you send an empty glass jar to school with your child by the end of next week. (empty jam jars etc) We would like to make our own sweetie jars using a mixture of materials.

We will experiment with weighing, counting and sorting.

Thank you so much

Miss Davidson and Miss McGhee 🙂

P1 Book Fair

Just a little reminder that the Book Fair is here next week. Each class will visit on the days below:

P1S: Wednesday

P1F: Thursday

You can send money to school in an envelope on that day or the Book Fair is open at 2.45-3.00 for parents to visit each day.

Please remember that there is no expectation that each child buys a book. It is completely the decision of parents/carers.

Many thanks for your support,

The P1 Team 🙂
