Primary One Home Learning Wednesday 21 March

Reading

Please follow the activity as directed in your child’s reading jotter. If your child has been given a word wall please continue to practise these words.

Phonics

We have continued to revise the digraphs already covered in class.  Use your flashcards to help you recognise the sounds.  See if you can teach an adult or someone at home the actions we have learnt to help us remember the sounds these digraphs make.

As an extra challenge, see how many words you can make with these sounds.

Tricky Words

Keep practising recognising and writing the tricky words we have been learning in class.

Numeracy

We have been focussing on our addition and subtraction skills.  We have also been working on money, can you recognise the coins to £2? Try activity 12 to help support your learning.

 Penguins

We are delighted to welcome Danielle Garden to the P1 Penguins. She is studying an MA in Primary Education at Edinburgh University and will be with us until the end of the summer term.

Sports Relief 2018

MESSAGE FROM P5 PUPILS

Dear Parents/Guardians

We are excited to tell you that Primary 5 are raising money for Sport Relief this year!

On Friday 16th March your children can dress up as their favourite sports person. Please bring in £1 (or contribute via Parent Pay). It would be great if the children could share one or two facts about their favourite sports person!

As well as dressing up we will be doing Run a Mile on Wednesday, Thursday  and Friday. Every class will be taking part in the run, so remember your trainers. Remember to do your best – run as far as you can.

Don’t feel the need to go out and buy new clothes. Be creative with what you have! Strips are allowed but we are reminding everyone to be respectful of all favourite sports stars.

Have fun!

From P5

Please follow the activity as directed in your child’s reading jotter. If your child has been given a word wall please continue to practise these words.

Phonics

Our new sounds are ‘oi’ as in ‘coin’ and ‘oy’ as in ‘toy’.  Use your flashcards to help you recognise the sounds.  See if you can teach an adult or someone at home the actions we have learnt to help us remember the sounds these digraphs make.

Tricky Words

Our new tricky (or common) words are ‘there’ and ‘were’.  Keep practising recognising these along with the rest of the tricky words we have been learning.

Listening and Talking

Prepare a short talk about your favourite book.  The areas you should try to cover include:

  • The name of the book.
  • The author and illustrator.
  • The main parts of the story.
  • Why it is your favourite book.

You should be prepared to share your talk with the class during the week beginning Monday 12 March.

Numeracy

We have been focussing on our addition and subtraction skills.  See if you can teach someone at home what we have been learning about taking away.

School lunches

Message from the Catering Department:
Dear Parent/Carer

Due to the severe weather we have been experiencing, the catering department have been unable to receive any deliveries from suppliers. Normal deliveries are not likely to return until Tuesday 6th of March.

School kitchens will be providing a meal service however due to the issues with suppliers this will vary to the advertised menu on ParentPay. Due to the change in menus, allergen information will vary to the website and we will do our upmost to ensure all usual special diets are catered for.

We are working hard to ensure kitchens are back to advertised menus as soon as possible and your support is much appreciated.

Kind regards

Catering Dept.

World Book Day

As you will be aware all Edinburgh schools are closed tomorrow. This means we will miss World Book Day. Not to worry, here are some ideas you might want to do at home together so you can still celebrate World Book Day.

We will rearrange a suitable date to celebrate World Book Day so the children can still dress up – we were looking forward to seeing the different characters coming to school. We will let you know as soon as a date is decided.
Thank you.

Writing

We have been practising forming letters correctly this week.  Keep practising using the correct pencil grip and see if you can think of some fun ways to practise your writing at home.

Numeracy

We have been focussing on our addition skills this week and have been using different strategies such as careful counting, using doubles, using our fingers to help when there are no physical items to count and counting on from a number.

With someone at home, take turns to roll two dice and add the numbers together.  For an extra challenge, you could play this game using two dominoes instead.
