As a City of Edinburgh primary school, at Buckstone Primary we follow the Scottish Government guidance on school uniform. Please click on the link below for further information:
Parents and carers are asked to co-operate with our school in encouraging the wearing of the school uniform.
The school uniform was agreed in consultation with parents, pupils, staff and the Parent Council. It incorporates a range of popular items of dress, e.g. sweatshirts, T-shirts. Wearing school uniform contributes to a positive school ethos and helps avoid discrimination and reduces peer pressure to wear expensive designer clothing.
Uniform
Our school colours are purple, black, white and grey. Our pupils are encouraged to wear:
• Sweatshirt or grey/purple jumper, cardigan (Senior Pupil sweatshirt/hoodie for P7 only)
• School polo shirt or plain white/purple polo shirt
• White/grey shirt/blouse
• Grey/black school trousers/skirt
• Black shoes or plain black trainers (no prominent brand names)
• Lilac & white gingham dress (optional for summer wear)
At present we are reviewing where branded school sweatshirts, polo shirts, kilts, jackets and fleeces can be purchased from. This is to ensure that we are in line with Scottish Government guidance. Non-branded school uniform (e.g. school skirt/trousers, plain polo shirts) are obtainable from any shop which stocks children’s school wear, including supermarkets.
We actively promote ‘pre-loved uniform’ – these items are always available during parent and carer consultations in October and February and at other times of the year.
PE:
The appropriate clothing and footwear for PE is a T-shirt, shorts or joggers and gym shoes or trainers. These are necessary for health and safety reasons and your co-operation is requested to ensure that pupils are equipped to participate in the PE lessons. Children are welcome to wear PE kit to school on their PE days.
Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled, Lost property is kept in a box at the main entrance and children and families are welcome to come and take a look during school hours. Any named items of lost property are returned.
Please help us by ensuring that pupils do not bring valuable or expensive items of clothing to school.
In certain circumstances, appropriate clothing will be necessary for school activities for safety reasons, e.g. in games areas, technical workshops; this extends to the wearing of suitable footwear and even, on occasion, to the length of pupils’ hair and the wearing of jewellery and earrings. Offensive clothing such as T-shirts or other items painted with obscene language or illustrations are not permitted. Football colours are also inappropriate as they can lead to incidents of rivalry.
If you have any queries regarding the school’s dress code, please contact the school office.
