Buckstone Primary School, P1 Koalas

 P1 Koalas Reflective Friday 17.5.24

Hello everyone,

We have had a very busy and active health week, here is a sample of some of our learning:

LITERACY

We are continuing with the Scottish National  Standardised  Assessments in literacy. These assessments are completed individually with each child.

We wrote about Sports Day in our writing jotters and talked about what we had enjoyed the most.

We started sharing a new reading book in our groups. We were talking about rhyming in our reading groups and looking at strategies to decode unfamiliar words. These books have come home with your child today, please return them to school on Monday.

We have really enjoyed listening to the children’s talks about their favourite places. It has been so interesting to learn about the places which are special to them, and the class have been a super audience asking lots of relevant questions. Thank you to everybody who has helped with these.

THINGS TO DO AT HOME

When you are sharing your child’s reading book ask them if they can think of any words to rhyme with some of the words in the book. Rhyming prompts children to repeat sounds and patterns, reinforcing their grasp of word sounds.

Please continue to practise the tricky words we have learned so far.

Write down the tricky words on a piece of paper or card, hold the cards behind your back then show them to your child and ask them to read the word you have shown them. Your child could practise writing these words, forming the letters the way they have been shown in class.

(If you are unsure about correct letter formation, please speak to one of us at the end of the day).

Please share your child’s reading book with them.

NUMERACY AND MATHS

Some of children were completing assessments this week and others were working on core numeracy skills.

THINGS TO DO AT HOME

This is a game to help identify and work with numbers up to 100. Your child can choose their own level.

FLUFFY!

Thank you so much for all the entries in Fluffy’s journal. It has been lovely to see the children’s enthusiasm and eagerness to take him home. The children have really enjoyed listening to Fluffy’s different adventures. Everyone in the class has now had a turn with Fluffy, we will continue to draw names from a hat so that all the children can have a second turn with him/her but we will put the jotter in our reading corner so that the children can enjoy reading about his/her adventures.
