Hello everyone,
Here is a sample of our learning this week:

LITERACY
We started sharing a new reading book in our groups. We were talking about rhyming and looking at strategies to decode unfamiliar words.
We have been learning to identify the pr and gr consonant blends.
Pram, prod, prick.
Gran, grin, grip, grub, grab.
We read ‘When Grandad was a Penguin’ by Morag Hood and wrote about which animal we would bring home from the zoo if we could choose one.
THINGS TO DO AT HOME
When you are sharing your child’s reading book ask them if they can think of any words to rhyme with some of the words in the book. Rhyming prompts children to repeat sounds and patterns, reinforcing their grasp of word sounds.
Please continue to practise the tricky words we have learned so far.
Block 1 – I the to was saw put he me is his want.
Block 2– you her she we be all are they come some said one were there into here do.
Write down the tricky words on a piece of paper or card, hold the cards behind your back then show them to your child and ask them to read the word you have shown them. Your child could practise writing these words, forming the letters the way they have been shown in class.
(If you are unsure about correct letter formation, please speak to one of us at the end of the day).
NUMERACY AND MATHS
We were exploring subtraction strategies, including using concrete materials, number lines, and mental counting back.
We worked on other core numeracy skills in our SEAL groups.

PE
This week our focus was on running and throwing. We practised running and stopping quickly. We tried to tighten our muscles when we froze. We changed partners a few times so that we got the chance to work with different people.
ART
We were learning about the contemporary mosaic artist Emma Biggs. We created our own floral mosaic pictures.

LOOKING AFTER PLANTS AND ANIMALS
We were learning about what plants need to grow and thrive and watched a short film about caterpillars and butterflies.
RSHP
We began a short topic on our bodies and talked about the names that we knew for parts of the body. We discussed some of the words we used at home for our private parts. The following words were introduced: nipples, vulva, penis, scrotum, testicles.
LOOSE PARTS

Next date for loose parts is Thursday 13 June.
Can you please dissuade your child from bringing in their own toys from home. It can cause distress and upset if these get damaged or go missing. If your child needs a comfort toy these can be kept in their bag or folder. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Have a lovely weekend.
