Hello everyone,
Here is a sample of our learning this week:

LITERACY
We shared a new reading book in our groups. We were looking at strategies to decode unfamiliar words.
We have been learning to identify the tr and bl consonant blends.
Trip, trot, tram, trim, trap, trick.
Blot, blob, bled, bleed, black, block, blush.
We spoke about our upcoming trip to the seaside and wrote about what we enjoy doing at the beach.
THINGS TO DO AT HOME
When you are sharing your child’s reading book ask them if they can think of any words to rhyme with some of the words in the book. Rhyming prompts children to repeat sounds and patterns, reinforcing their grasp of word sounds.
Please continue to practise the tricky words we have learned so far.
Block 1 – I the to was saw put he me is his want.
Block 2– you her she we be all are they come some said one were there into here do.
Write down the tricky words on a piece of paper or card, hold the cards behind your back then show them to your child and ask them to read the word you have shown them. Your child could practise writing these words, forming the letters the way they have been shown in class.
(If you are unsure about correct letter formation, please speak to one of us at the end of the day).
We will not be learning any new sounds in the next three weeks but will be focusing on the tricky words we have covered in P1.
NUMERACY AND MATHS
We were practising number bonds to 10 and some of us were looking at some number bonds to 20.
We were describing positions and simple directions using technology. We had great fun programming the Bee Bots.

THINGS TO DO AT HOME
Talk about the language of position and direction : in front, behind, above, below, left, right, forwards and backwards.
PE
We had a mini Olympics and practised frisbee, long jump and javelin.
LOOKING AFTER PLANTS AND ANIMALS
We were learning about what plants need to grow and thrive and planted nasturtium seeds.
We asked questions about looking after a new baby to Alexis’s mum from the other P1 class and met baby Finn who is three weeks old.

RSHP
We concluded the short topic on our bodies and discussed what private means and how we can keep ourselves safe.
LOOSE PARTS
Next date for loose parts is Thursday 13 June.
Can you please dissuade your child from bringing in their own toys from home. It can cause distress and upset if these get damaged or go missing. If your child needs a comfort toy these can be kept in their bag or folder. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Have a lovely weekend.
