Welcome to our first Friday blog. Please try to read the blog with your child as this will allow them to chat about their week and reflect on their learning. The blog will be posted on a Friday. The school office will continue to email if they have anything to share.
We have had a busy first full week at school and the children are settling into the class routines. They continue to enjoy break times with their buddies and are becoming increasingly independent in the dinner hall.
Our class charter is Ready. Respectful. Safe. We discussed what this means and how we can be each of these things. We made handprints which we will add to the statement so that the children will try to be ready to learn, respectful to adults, peers and property and keep themselves and others safe.
INDEPENDENT LEARNING
The children have been developing their skills through independent learning opportunities in class. Here are just a few photographs of what they have been doing.

LITERACY
Our literacy focus this week has been on Listening and Talking as we share memory boxes together. We will continue to do this next week too so please send your child’s box to school. We have talked about our families and drawn pictures of them in our first writing jotter. We have been assessing the children’s knowledge of sounds and letters to begin phonic learning next week in groups.

NUMERACY
We have been doing some numeracy assessments with the children to assess their knowledge before we begin some core numeracy learning in groups next week.
OTHER AREAS OF THE CURRICULUM
In PE we were playing some warmup games and looking at different ways of travelling e.g. jumping with two feet together, skipping and hopping.
OTHER PRIMARY ONE MATTERS
Please bring in any clean recycling for the children to use in our STEM area.
Please make sure your child has a change of clothes in case they get wet or muddy. Can these items of clothing be named and kept in school in a bag. If your child has to change their clothes and takes the wet/dirty items home, please make sure they are replaced the next day.
P1 will have their first session of Loose parts play on Monday 26.8.24. This takes place in the sandpit and wooded area of the playground. The children can select from a variety of ‘loose parts’ to build, create, work cooperatively and use their imaginations. There is a tap they can use to fill buckets with water so wellies and waterproofs would be ideal. If your child does not have these things, then old clothes and shoes would be perfect. We have a few items of clothing in school that can be borrowed.
Thanks so much for all the boxes of tissues you have sent in. They are much appreciated and will be well used in the coming months!
Please speak to one of us at the end of the day ( mornings are very busy with all the children coming in) if there is anything you are not sure about or anything concerning you.
Have a lovely weekend.
