Literacy focus

Our focus this week was on sharing our talks. All pupils were well prepared and spoke confidently to the class about their favourite place – we heard about so many different interesting places; bedrooms/homes, the family room, the cinema, Mauritius, North Berwick, Nethybridge, Turkey, ballet class, Legoland, London, Cousins’ house, Dollar Burn, Blairdrummond, the beach, the park, the swimming pool, Tenerife, Deep sea world and even the Dentist. Still a few more talks to share next week. Well done everyone.

We have completed our SNSA tests.

.

Other areas of the curriculum

In PE we continued our block of athletics ( run. jump, throw) and began to learn about shoulder and arm strength and different throwing techniques.

We are learning about Looking after living things and the lifecycle of caterpillars.

Looking ahead to next week

Health week activities, including trip to the woods on Tuesday and loose parts learning on Friday.

Children should come to school every day in sports clothes ( no football kit ) and prepared to learn indoors and out in any weather. If your child’s indoor shoes are ‘school’ shoes, it would be great if they could bring in some trainers or gym shoes next week for indoors as the hard soled school shoes are not always suitable for indoor sporting activities ( not buying anything new at this time of term obviously – just something for indoors next week would be great )

P1 Pandas

P1 Pandas homework task

As we work towards achieving the Early Level talking and listening outcomes, we would like the children to deliver a ‘talk’ to the class next week.

The title of the talk is My Favourite place. The children should come prepared to speak to the whole class about a favourite place that they have chosen. It doesn’t have to be anywhere amazing -for example it could be a holiday destination, the dentist, granny’s garden or their bedroom.

As it is a talk, they should not bring a script to read out, but can, if they wish, bring one photo or drawing to share.

As a rough guideline the talk should include the opening line ‘My favourite place is ……., followed by a couple of sentences describing the place and an explanation of why they like it”

Success Criteria for the task :-

  • Organise your talk so that it makes sense
  • Speak clearly so that everyone can hear
  • Make eye contact as you speak

We will pick people at random to present their talks starting next Wednesday so they have a week to get ready.

Thanks for your support
