P2B Reflective Friday 11.10.24
Hello families,
Welcome to the P2B Bouncing Bunnies Blog for Friday 11th of October, and to the half term holiday.
Timetables, Dates and Reminders
- PE is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
- Our next loose parts session is on Tuesday 29th October.
- Our following Loose Parts session is on Wednesday 6th November.
- Miss Kelly takes the class on Wednesdays.
- We have a short show and tell session on Tuesdays focused on achievements and souvenirs of special experiences.
- Your child needs a spare change of clothes in school in case of spills or getting caught in the rain etc. If your child is wearing these home one day can we have a replacement the next day.
- We have a rotating list of class responsibilities each week. One of these is our librarian. The Librarian looks after our class reading corner and will bring in from home, or choose from the class library, a favourite book for Mr Bennett to read on Fridays.
- Our shared area is always in need of clean and dry cardboard boxes etc for junk modelling. Skip the recycling and bring yours in (no packaging from dairy products or nut products for the safety of those area users with allergies please.)
- Reading books come home on a Friday as a way for the children to showcase their learning to you, not as homework. Please return these on Mondays. We do not send reading books home during school holidays primarily to allow your child time to read for pleasure.
- Purple Folders: These need to come to school daily as there are often items of paperwork that may be damaged in a standard bag.
- The children resume from the October break on Tuesday October 22nd.
Literacy
Our class sound focus this week was on oi and oy as in boil and toy. We have also revised igh and ai, as in light and ai. Some of our learners found sorting these two a little tricky still.
You are of course welcome to extend the learning at home, but it is a holiday and all the stimulating fun the children have is always of use in school.
Science
We have continued our new topic of Sun, Moon and Stars this week. On Monday we took our phases of the moon knowledge outside to see which ones we knew. Then yesterday we looked at star facts and painted constellations real, imaginary and of our initial.

Maths and Numeracy
We have been looking at place value this week supported by our spinning giant hundred square. Place value is talking about tens and ones (or units), then later on adding hundreds, thousands etc.
Play
Mr Bennett (with some help from Ms Cross), totally revamped the P2 classroom this week to create more defined play spaces in the wake of our big block arrival. The children have certainly made good use of it.

The Mr Bennett Bit
It was amazing seeing the children take to the new layout this week. They really engaged with the new options and they were so excited to see it with Miss Kelly on Wednesday. I have taken their comments on board and will be tweaking the layout a bit more before they are back in.
Over to you! Have a great half term Bunnies and families.
Mr Bennett.

New Starter
We have had a great time this week welcoming Sienna into the class. Lots of the children have very respectfully and responsibly been showing her around the school and introducing our class routines. Many made lovely welcome cards as well. We hope you have had a great week Sienna!
Literacy
Our class sound focus this week was on oo and ew as in moon and chew. We have also revised ee and ea, as in week and beak.
To extend the learning at home be on the lookout for things that have oo and ew, and ee and ea in their name. Also work on making words with sticks, leaves and twigs, or in unusual places, such as with bath crayons.
P7 came to help us with a whole school task in our writing time this week. We were writing about what makes Buckstone brilliant.
Science
We have continued our new topic of Sun, Moon and Stars this week. We looked at moon facts and phases of the moon. If you would like to keep a moon phase diary at home that would be fabulous. There will be a sheet to support this optional extension task in purple folders today. If the night is too cloudy a little cloud symbol instead of a shaded phase is perfect.
Maths and Numeracy
We have been reviewing and extending our knowledge of number bonds again this week . We have also been working on jumping over 1, 2 or 3 numbers forwards and backwards.
Play
Loose parts was great fun as always. With the wet weather we saw a lot of mud kitchens and cook pots filled with “soup”.
Not to be out crafted by the saw a fabulous cinema complex made by some of the boys this week. Also a fabulous ice cream parlour and boat in block play.

The Mr Bennett Bit
It was great meeting all our families at parent consultations and I look forward to sharing the progress at the next round. The children have really enjoyed our topic related story over several lessons this week and last “The Rock That Fell From The Sky” by Jon Klassen. It has been fun seeing their engagement.
In French we learned “Bon Weekend” this week so do have a Bon weekend before we
Fly into another fabulous week on Monday Bouncing Bunnies!

Mr Bennett.

Your tempest photo order forms should have gone home yesterday (or today if an appropriate dry bag or purple folder wasn’t available yesterday). The brilliant Mrs George wanted me to say you have until October 10th to order to save on the delivery charge.
Literacy
Our class sound focus this week was on ow and oa as in snow and boat. We have also revised ay and ai, as in bay and rain.
To extend the learning at home be on the lookout for things that have ow and oa, and ay and ai in their name.
We have also done our Big Writing this week and the effort put in was amazing.
Science
We have begun our new topic of Sun, Moon and Stars this week. We looked at Sun facts and we became the Sun Moon and Earth to work out how all three move around.

Maths and Numeracy
We have been moving on with addition this week within 10, 20 and 30. We have also been reviewing our number bonds towards this. Focusing on those number bonds to 10 (1+9, 2+8, 3 + 7, 4 + 6 etc) can be supercharging to our adding and subtracting in class.
Play
P2B put those new blocks to good use this week with a fabulous chocolate factory being built, showing amazing sorting skills.

We have also seen some wonderful designer handbags being made in the area and a lovely dog costume head.

The Mr Bennett Bit
I am looking forward to seeing all our families next week at parent consultations. I was also really impressed with how the children tackled their big writing task this week. When we do big writing we are not allowed to provide support, only encouragement, so as to get an accurate snapshot of your child’s current independent skills. It can be a very emotional day. This week everybody put in an amazing effort and it was a pleasure to see the class achieve so much independently.
Have a fabulous weekend Bouncing Bunnies
Mr Bennett.
P2B Reflective Friday 20.09.24
Hello families,
Hello families,
Welcome the P2B Bouncing Bunnies Blog for Friday 20th of September.
Timetables, Dates and Reminders
- PE is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
- Our next loose parts session is on Monday 30th of September
- Our following Loose Parts session is on Wednesday 9th October.
- Miss Kelly takes the class on Wednesdays.
- We have a short class show and tell session each Tuesday focused on achievements and souvenirs of special experiences.
Skip the recycling and bring yours in (no packaging from dairy products or nut products for the safety of those area users with allergies please.) A special note this week is that we particularly want shoe boxes as some amazing learning through play took place this week (see below)
Reading Books
- Reading books will be going out from today. Reading books coming home on a Friday as a way for the children to showcase their learning to you, not as homework.
- STOP PRESS: APOLOGY- due to a miscommunication, discovered today, with our reading support volunteer earlier this week two of our reading groups read each other’s books in the reading sessions. These children were reading our Fang’s Dentist book and the story about Ron’s Big day. If your child has these books please bear in mind they have had less preperation for their reading showcase than planned.
Trip out
Our finale to our houses and homes and information handling topics was a local area walk surveying homes in the local area.
The children enjoyed noting down the many types of residence in the area as they toured and were very good at spotting the different types. You could choose to extend this learning at home by asking what house and home types they can see on your next walk or drive. You could also practice counting with tally marks on a trip out or at home.
Thank you for those who supported or volunteered to support this trip.
Literacy
Our class sound focus this week was on revising all of our recent sounds. The highlight was a class game of hangman where P2b beat Mr Bennett’s toughest igh word ‘Lighthouse’. Which also came from our houses and homes topic.
To extend the learning at home be on the lookout for things that have igh in their name like the night or a light, or have -y in their name like a fly or the sky. May be play a game of igh/-y spy.
Maths and Numeracy
As said above maths was used in our house and homes survey this week. We also practiced some colourful addition games in class. The highlight for the children was being given access to Sumdog on the shared ipads. We will be working through the Sumdog diagnostic tests in coming weeks before supplying login cards for use at home.
Play
P2B were very lucky this week to be given the first chance to use a new resource. We have our own class set of large building blocks until the end of the year which should make it easier for all to have a shot at building something fantastic.
In the area today several of our class were inspired by shoe boxes to create elaborate doll’s houses with fantastically modelled coathangers and clothes.

Well made girls.
Health and Wellbeing
This week we did the important job of expressing ourselves using SHANNARI wheels. A freedom of expression outlined in the UN declaration on the rights of the child. All of the children expressed how happy they were under the indicators. In PE this week we worked on throwing and passing skills.
The Mr Bennett Bit
It was a very busy week this week, with only 4 days to pack it into. The favourite part of the week was definitely the trip out to the local area. And I was so happy to hear how much it had been enjoyed.
Have a fabulous weekend Bouncing Bunnies
Mr Bennett.
P2B Reflective Friday 13.09.24
Hello families,
Welcome to issue 4 of the 2024/25 P2B Bouncing Bunnies Blog!
An Apology
This past Monday there was a loose parts session I had not communicated to you. This was simply because I had misread the timetable. I apologise for this and hope that clothes did not come home too sandy and wet. I have now amended my calendar and will include the next 2 sessions here going forwards. The next session is now Thursday 19th September and will be followed on Monday 30th September. Again my apologies for that miscommunication.
Timetables, Dates and Reminders
- PE is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
- Our next loose parts session is on Thursday 19th September
- Our following Loose Parts session is on Monday 30th of September.
- Miss Kelly takes the class on Wednesdays.
- We have a short class show and tell session each Tuesday focused on achievements and souvenirs of special experiences.
- Your child needs a spare change of clothes in school in case of spills or getting caught in the rain etc. If your child is wearing these home one day can we have a replacement the next day.
- We have a rotating list of class responsibilities each week. One of these is our librarian. As well as looking after our class reading books the librarian will bring in from home, or choose from the class library, a favourite book for Mr Bennett to read at story time on Fridays.
- Our shared area is always in need of clean and dry cardboard boxes etc for junk modelling. Skip the recycling and bring yours in (no packaging from dairy products or nut products for the safety of those area users with allergies please.) A big thanks to all who have contributed. Please keep it coming. And a special thank you again to Robyn and family who collected another large haul of junk modelling supplies and all our other contributors.
- If you have not returned your KIC form can we ask that it is returned ASAP as we cannot take trips and walks off of school grounds without them.
- Reading books will be going out from next week. Reading books coming home on a Friday is to showcase their reading work to you.
Trip out- Volunteers Sought
As a finale to our houses and homes and information handling we are considering a local area walk to survey the types of homes in the local area. We will need to have all our KIC forms (the personal details forms) returned so if yours is outstanding please rush that back in.
We are hoping that this will take place on one of the next two Wednesdays, probably around 9.30am. If you have some Wednesday availability and would like to come to support the class then please send a message to school detailing that availability and we will contact interested parents to confirm.
Literacy
Our class sound focus this week was on igh and -y digraphs. We saw some fabulous rainbow writing on Wednesday of words including night, sight and light. Some groups also were working on CVC words van leg and jam and on revising digraphs th and wh.
Maths and Numeracy
In addition to our SEAL sessions we have been looking at Information Handling. We did more work on Venn diagrams this week and worked on adding intersections. There was some fabulous sorting and understanding shown.

Play
Some of the class were building high and made a very tall tower using marble run supports. We also carried on with building buildings and had a good time at loose parts.

Health and Wellbeing
In PE this week we have tried some throwing and catching ball skills.
The Mr Bennett Bit
I was again really impressed with the amazing way the class tackled the Venn diagrams and sorted the objects into a range of amazing groups. There has been some really good progress and effort going into writing this week with everybody working hard to follow our non negotiables and star steps (Capital letter, full stop, finger spacing).
Have a fabulous LONG weekend Bouncing Bunnies
Mr Bennett.

P2B Our Learning 23/8/24
Hello families,
Welcome to the 2024/25 P2B Bouncing Bunnies Blog!

Timetables, Dates and Reminders
- PE is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
- Our next loose parts session is on Friday 30th of August.
- Miss Kelly takes the class on Wednesdays.
- We will have a short class show and tell session each Tuesday. If you have achieved something, done something extraordinary or have something very special to show us then that is the day to bring it.
- Your child needs a spare change of clothes in school in case of spills or getting caught in the rain etc. If your child is wearing these home one day can we have a replacement the next day.
- We have a rotating list of class responsibilities each week. One of these is our librarian. As well as looking after our class reading books the librarian will bring in from home, or choose from the class library, a favourite book for Mr Bennett to read all, or a taster of, at story time.
- Our shared area is always in need of clean and dry cardboard boxes etc for junk modelling. Skip the recycling and bring yours in (no packaging from dairy products or nut products for the safety of those area users with allergies please.)
- Purple folders will be heading home today so that you have them. Books will be going out from the week commencing 2nd September, when we have completed our reading assessments and formed our groups. When reading books go home your child will have practiced during the week. The aim is for them to showcase their learning to you with a read over the weekend. Books need to then be back in on Mondays for us to start the next set of reading groups.
- Flu vaccination letters are coming home today. We need them back ASAP and by Wednesday at the latest.
Rights Respecting Class
This week’s big rights respecting task was the creation of our class charter, which has been signed by everyone in the class with a hand and their name.
We decided the aims of our charter were that our class should be a fair and happy place and a Rights Respecting place.
Our charter also aims to help us be healthy, develop freely, express ourselves freely and access education. These aims are from UNCRC Articles 6, 13 and 28.
The expectations we put in place were to be Ready, Respectful and Safe as per the whole school’s values. We also decided to be Kind, to Do Our Best and to be Helpful. It is important that the adults in our class live up to these aims
Literacy
Our main focus this week has been on reading assessments in order that we can form our reading groups for the term.
We listen to a story each day. On Monday we voted for our favourite story from the first week of term. The children selected Stuck by Oliver Jeffers as their favourite choice.
For some speaking and listening tasks we have made talk teams of three (and a single 2 due to numbers). These will change on a monthly basis so that the children get a good experience and benefit of working with all their classmates over the year.
Miss Kelly and Mrs DeBonrostro are running spelling groups on Wednesdays to improve our vocabularies and writing.
Our sounds focus at present is to revise some of last block of sounds from P1- wh, ch, sh, th, ee and oo. If you have books with a focus on these sounds at home, for example “Horton hears a who” for the wh digraph then reading those together will support our work in class.
Numeracy
As with Literacy it has been a week focused on assessments and group set up for continuing our S.E.A.L. (Stages of Early Arithmetical Learning) practice.
We have also been working on counting backwards from 30 as a class and singing this song. Counting backwards is a vital skill for successful subtraction and division. It can also make some addition and multiplication learning easier (e.g. 9×10 is equal to 10×10 minus 10).
Modern Languages
Our French word of the week has been Bonjour and we have used it to practice saying hello and goodbye in French. We have also been using Salut and Au Revoir in these sessions.
Play
In play the main focus has been learning and playing with all the new toys, areas and objects in the classroom. A popular choice has been building with our block sets and with our Lego.

Health and Wellbeing
In PE this week we have focused on referee roles and their importance.
In health and wellbeing we have been focused on Ready, Respectful, Safe, establishing our class roles and choosing our class identity. The identity the children have selected is P2 Bouncing Bunnies.
The Mr Bennett Bit
It was a pleasure to meet so many of our class’s families last Friday and do feel free to chat with me after school at the door with any small questions, or to make an appointment via the school office if that time isn’t good or the issue is larger.
Have a fabulous week Bouncing Bunnies
Mr Bennett.
Apologies- there was one more button I should have pressed to link this to the class list on the website and it was missed on Friday. Hopefully you can now see this.
