P5M – What we have been learning this week 09.10.20

Good afternoon – Happy Friday!

This week has been busy! Have a look at what we have been up to…

Maths

In Numeracy this week we have been focusing on using the chimney sum for written subtraction. We started off working with 2-digit numbers and really pushed ourselves on to 3-digit numbers. We also used our outdoor learning time to play some maths games focusing on problem solving strategies.

Activities to do at home:

Teach someone at home how to do a chimney sum

Literacy

This week P5M have been focusing on developing our reading skills. We used our noting skills to bullet point the main events in our reading books and then using this to write a sort summary. We also spent some time working in pairs answering different questions about a text to develop our comprehension.

Please see the document posted on Monday for the spelling rule and for activities to do at home.

Activities to do at home:

Read to someone

Try to write a summary about something you are reading at home

Other

Health and wellbeing – We started our building resilience programme. We focused on the different strategies we can use to help us build our resilience

Free the Forest – We have been learning more about food chains and food webs this week. We worked in small groups to create our own, starting with a producer followed by a primary consumer, secondary consumer and a decomposer.

Assembly – We worked really hard to present an assembly to Mrs Ritchie for her Retirement. We did a great job at presenting and had such good posters/art work to show – well done everyone!

Have a great weekend!
