P4W Wonderful Woodland 30 October 2020
Hello everyone and welcome to this week’s blog. We are all delighted to welcome Mrs Ling to our P4W Learning Team.
We have had another busy week, developing skills across the curriculum.
Literacy
We are becoming Reading Detectives as we continue to read our class novel ‘Ottoline and the Yellow Cat’.
Looking for clues in a text – deciding what is important and what might be misleading.
Giving our opinion on a text and discussing a variety of texts (including our home texts) with a partner and in a team.
Sharing and discussing a selection of non-fiction texts.
We are finding information about the characters and asking questions- taking notes in ‘Reading Detective’ notebook.
Spelling- words with ‘ir’ and ‘ur’
FANTASTIC– third thirty first
SPECTACULAR– firstly thirteen return occurred
Tricky words- work know
Ideas for home learning: Use Autumn colours to write out your words. Write them inside a big, orange pumpkin.
Maths
Writing additional calculations in the traditional way, so that we are adding the tens then adding the units.
Laying these calculations out carefully and accurately, just as Mathematician would do.
Mental Agility
Quick and accurate recall of number facts.
Jigsaw numbers to 100 and using the skill to give change from £1.
Doubling 2- digit numbers.
Ideas for home learning-Make your own ‘ five-minute frenzy’ by drawing a 10 X 10 grid using a ruler. Put the numbers 1 to 9 across the top and the same down the side. Put the answers to the calculations in each box. For an extra challenge- time yourself doing it!
Health and Wellbeing
We are exploring strategies to help us become more resilient.
Developing our fitness, listening and quick thinking skills.
Developing our coordination, rhythm and sequencing skills.
Learning in our outdoor environment.
Social Skill
Please find attached our Reflective Friday blog sharing our learning from the end of the week. Thank you for a great week P4W and well done for lots of super learning!
