Buckstone PS turns 40!

On Friday 23rd March it was a special day for the pupils and staff of Buckstone Primary School. We were not only celebrating 40 years of our school but we also opened our new gym hall. This definitely called for a special celebration.

After the official opening, where the oldest P7 and oldest P1 joined with one of the first pupils at Buckstone and the current Headteacher to cut the ribbon, the show began. Each year stage sang a song from the 1970s. Songs included Money, Money, Money by Abba and We are the Champions by Queen. Everyone did a great job at learning the lyrics and adding in actions/dance moves.

After each song the children were presented with a medal to mark the 40th birthday of the school. They absolutely loved their medals.

Refreshments were then served (some even made by the children) to end the occasion. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day and look forward to the next 40 years of Buckstone PS!

We are planning to use the booking system for Parent Consultation Evenings, as used in the Autumn term. Our Parent Consultations are on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th March from 16:00 until 18:30. The system will allow you to choose appointments for your child/children.

Book your Parents’ Nursery “Cuppa Chat” Online from Tuesday 18:00

Following the success of using the new online booking system for parents to book for the Parent Consultation Evenings we are rolling out the system to be used for the “Cuppa Chat” sessions held in the Nursery.

These sessions will be held on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th March from 12:30 until 15:30. The system will allow you to choose appointments for your child/children.

We plan to open Bookings on Tuesday 6th March at 18:00 and close at 09:00 on Monday 12th March. (Apologies for the 1 day delay, we do still have a few final adjustments to make which will be finalised in school on Tuesday – another knock-on from the lost days last week).

Note:
The Nursery bookings are configured slightly different to those used in the school. Rather than booking with a member of staff you are booking with a “dummy” staff member named:

  • Nursery14 – if you want to book on Wednesday 14th
  • Nursery15 – if you want to book on Thursday 15th

This is because there are a variety of staff members involved in the sessions on both days.

Most parents will be able to select their preferred day (please do not book on both the 14th & 15th). There are 5 children/parents who are linked uniquely to a particular day – I understand the Nursery team will have informed those parents.

Apps to support Maths Learning

We have been using a flashcard App over the last year. It has been very successful in supporting the pupils encouraging then to learn keys facts for their Learn Its and multiplication and division facts.

However, it has been recognised that it has been difficult to share the flash cards with home. To this aim we have investigated some new FREE apps to identify how the flashcards could be shared with home.

Option (A)

DETAILED instructions can be found on the following pdf file – Install-NKO-Flashcards-App

The details below provide an overview of the process

Overview

Install NKO Flashcards on your device, either Android or Applenko-flashcard-app-icon

On your device follow this link to install the shared Learn-Its Folder – link

NOTE – to join a shared folder it will prompt you to login

P4/5 pupils may like to use their Office 365 email address

You will need to accept the invitation sent to your mail account.

You then need to enter an Invitation Key

On an android device go to Settings and in the ‘Join; section, enter the invitation key of

ZJZLT17

On an Apple device go to Settings / Sharing and enter the invitation key

A folder called Learn-Its should appear and the individual files will be downloaded

Option (B)

Install App Quizletquizlet-flashcard-app-icon

Note the way the App is configured you might think you need to sign in to play. (You Don’t).

Select the “search Quizlett”; option – on Page 3

Select Users and enter buckquiz – you will then be able to view the “Learn-Its” which have been set up and also “Multiply-Divide” facts.
