- Adding ly
- This suffix begins with a consonant and therefore the root words do not change unless the root word ends in y, in which case y becomes i
- e.g. rapid +ly
- e.g. tidy + i + ly
- If root word ends in l then simply add ly (gradual + ly – gradually – double l)
