P3MB Friday 25.9.20

Hello everyone

We hope that you enjoyed the long weekend. We enjoyed hearing about all the lovely things you were doing.

This week we have been learning:

NUMERACY

We have been looking at using different addition strategies and this week we were using the largest number first when adding two numbers together. We were playing games, completing worksheets and using the iPads to help us practise.

In mental maths we were counting in sequences of 3s and 4s and playing ‘Round the World’ to help with mental addition.

Things to try at home:

LITERACY

READING

We have been learning to summarise a story and this week we worked on summarising our current reading book. We will continue to practise this skill.

All groups had time to discuss and read their new books.

SPELLING

New spelling words were introduced and the rules discussed. The children copy them using ‘Look, Say, Cover, Write, check’. Our morning challenges give the children a chance to practise their words through a variety of games and activities.

WRITING

The children enjoyed listening to the story of ‘Waiting for Wolf’. A few children suggested writing a ‘what happens next’ story as a follow up. Their ideas were very creative and the class were very focussed and engaged while writing.

THINGS TO DO AT HOME

Ask your child to tell you the story of ‘Waiting for Wolf’ using the structure, ‘somebody, wanted, but, so, then’.

Use the same structure to summarise their reading book or other book of their choice in written form. Try to use capital letters and full stops. Encourage your child to read their writing aloud to help them to decide where full stops should go.

Practise your handwriting using pens, pencils, crayons, chalk; any materials available to you at home.

HWB

We are continuing to improve our fitness levels in PE and played a variety of running games in groups and individually to help us with this.

At outdoor time we looked for signs of autumn and created a face with the natural materials we found in the wooded part of the playground.

FRENCH

We played bingo to practise our numbers 0-13 and practised saying : hello, goodbye and how are you. We learned a song to help us with this. Ask your child to teach you!

LOST PROPERTY

Please make sure your child’s name is on all their clothing, including shoes. Many of the shoes are of similar styles and this can make it confusing when changing into indoor/outdoor shoes several times a day.

Have a lovely weekend.

Hello everyone

This week we have been learning:

NUMERACY

We have been sequencing and ordering numbers to 20, to 100 and some of us have been ordering larger numbers.

In mental maths we have been partitioning numbers, thinking about adding ten more and ten less.

We continued to practise counting in 4s.

Some comments from the children:

‘I’ve learned to count in 3s using the songs on the Smartboard’.

‘I’ve used the posters in the classroom to help me count in 10s.’

‘Number games help me to count in 4s’.

LITERACY

In reading we have been learning to make predictions about what might happen next using our reading books.

We were thinking about using full stops and capital letters correctly and wrote sentences of our own to practise this.

We had a Big Writing assessment where we wrote a personal piece about something we had done after school or at the weekend.

A comment from a member of the class:

‘Morning challenges help me learn my spelling words’.

TARGETS

We talked about targets for literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing for Term One and wrote our individual star steps.

PE

We continued to work on our fitness and recorded our times on Tuesday and Thursday, trying to beat our own scores.

FRENCH

We practised saying the numbers 1-13 in French and played some games outside to help us learn.

Dear parents

We are trying to assess your child’s reading level so that we can give them a suitable reading book. Although we have information from your child’s previous teacher this may be out of date as the children have missed a whole term of school. Please bear with us as we get to know your child and their reading level. We may mix up groups and try your child on different stages of books.

PE is on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All PE for the foreseeable future will be outdoors. The children are encouraged to come to school on these days dressed in clothing which is suitable for physical outdoor activity.

Have a lovely weekend.

P3MB Friday 4.9.20

Hello everyone,

This week we have been learning:

Maths and Numeracy

In mental maths we practised counting in 3s and 4s, we played games and sang songs to help us do this. Please keep practising at home. If your child is finding counting in 3s and 4s tricky, practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

This week we looked at place value and reminded ourselves about hundreds, tens and units. Some of us looked at even bigger numbers. We completed some written work on adding one more, ten more, one hundred more to two digit and three digit numbers. We also took one less, ten less and one hundred less away from two and three digit numbers.

literacy

We all got a new reading book and thought of a name for our reading group. Please make sure your child has their purple folder with their reading book and purple reading jotter with them every day. Some children have not yet brought their purple folder to school, please could you give them to your child to bring in.

We did a variety of activities to help us to learn our spelling words and we had dictations today.

As part of our reading activities we wrote a different ending to ‘Operation Night Monster’ and spoke about the beginning, middle and end of the story.

We are really enjoying our class novel and we created our own character who could be a new member of the Secret Seven.

PE

We are continuing to work on our fitness levels and are playing games to help us warm up.

LOOSE PARTS

We got the opportunity to play with the loose parts materials today.

RME

The class discussed what religion is and what we know already. We watched two stories from the Muslim religion and talked about the terms: Allah, prophet, Quran.

Have a good weekend everyone.
