P2 Wonderful Wolves Friday update

This week in P2W…

Literacy – this week we travelled back in time with Mr Ed to help us learn our spelling rule for ‘ed’. We also continued our exploring of non-fiction texts and created posters with facts from our reading books. This week we have been learning about commas when writing a list and we took a trip to the class sweet shop to help us!

Numeracy and Maths – this week we continued our learning of place value and have been practicing adding tens and units. In mathematics we have started learning about measure. We were learning how to use a ruler and explored measuring items in cm and m.

Health and Wellbeing: this week we have been discussing how to be resilient and what our brains need to stay healthy.

Other curricular areas: This week we have been creating Monet inspired artwork using our oil pastels. We also got to explore magnifying lenses in our outdoor learning a slot.

P2 Wonderful Wolves Friday Update

This week in P2W…

Literacy – this week we have been learning the spelling rule ‘dge’ for our soft g sound. This week we were also working on our listening and talking skills, collecting facts from our reading books and presenting them to the class.

Numeracy and Maths – this week we continued our learning on place value and we were practicing making numbers from tens and units. We also got to play fast fractions to cement our fraction knowledge.

Health and wellbeing- we have been adding to our tree of kindness with the kind deeds we have been doing.

Other learning:

This week we were developing our fine motor skills in outdoor learning, making spelling words using outdoor tweezers. We also got to prepare an assembly for the whole school, telling them what we have been learning in P2.

P2 Wonderful Wolves Friday update

This week in P2W…

Literacy: This week we have been learning our soft ‘g’ sound and spelling rule. We also had lots of fun with our Mr Men and Little Miss story writing station this week…lots of creative authors in the making! This week we also were learning about writing lists and we created a list of instructions for washing our hands. In writing this week we focused on using connectives when writing about animals and the reasons we like them.

Numeracy and Maths – This week we continued our learning on place value and partitioning. We have been using our counting blocks to help us represent tens and units and then used these to help us add and subtract large numbers. This week our class had some very specific pizza orders from customers so we used our fraction knowledge to make the pizzas and sent them out for delivery! We also got to play fraction bingo.

Other curricular areas: We were learning about the artist Claude Monet this week and P2W are excited to try and replicate some of his art work in the coming weeks. We also had outdoor loose parts play this week where we got to be very creative…lots of mud pies and dens! To celebrate filling our class pompom jar for our targets of ‘being kind to others, showing good listening and being respectful to resources’ we had a movie morning on Friday. We also created some new targets for the rest of term.

Reading: Next week we will be having a look at some non-fiction books. Your child’s reading book next week will therefore be non-fiction. This will correlate with their Oxford Reading tree stage.

P2W Wonderful Wolves Friday update

This week in P2W…

This week has been ‘Health Week’ at Buckstone Primary and we enjoyed coming to school in our sports clothes!

As part of ‘Health Week’ we have been learning about the different parts of our body and what they are called. We also were learning about a healthy diet and what foods we should eat lots of and ones we should only have every so often! We worked together as a group to practice our teamwork skills.

We also got to go down to the waterboard field this week to take part in some action packed P.E with Mr Segall.

We also discussed our physical and mental health and were learning about how to look after our physical and mental health. We had some classroom Yoga and mindfulness colouring activities to help us.

Literacy – In literacy this week we have continued our learning of the soft ‘c’ sound, creating sentences using words with a soft ‘c’ sound. We have also been working really hard on this week’s book reviews.

In numeracy and mathematics this week we have continued our learning of place value in numbers and have been practicing partitioning numbers into tens and units to help us with addition and subtraction.

Other learning:

This week we had outdoor loose parts play and our creativity ran wild! We got a little mucky but had some really imaginative play!

P2 Wonderful Wolves Friday Update

This week in P2W…

Literacy: In literacy this week we have been learning our soft ‘c’ sound. We had lots of activities out in the classroom to help us learn our soft ‘c’ sound and practice out spelling of soft ‘c’ words. Have a look at the pictures below!

Numeracy and Mathematics: We have been reminding ourselves of the place value of number and have been partitioning our numbers into tens and units to help us add and subtract. We used our counting cubes to represent numbers in tens and units. We have also been learning about the fraction ‘half’ this week and using our knowledge to identify and represent a half.

Health and Wellbeing: This week we continued our focus on friendships and discussed what makes a good friend and times where we have been a good friend. We wrote about these times on a leaf to create a friendship tree in our classroom…picture coming soon!!

Other curriculum areas: This week Mr Segal from actives schools has been taking us for some fun filled P.E lessons. We have also been practicing our performance of true colours for our recording next Friday.

True colours BSL performance: next Friday we will be performing and recording our performance of ‘True Colours BSL’. The children can dress in bright clothing or their favourite colour. Permission slips for the recording have been given to all the children. Please return these if you wish you child to be involved in the recording, more details are on the permission slip. If your child has lost theirs please contact myself or the school office.

To help with home learning on Thursday next week a learning pack will be sent home with your child on Wednesday. Please look at our teams page for any further information.

P2 Wonderful Wolves Friday update

This week in P2W…

Literacy: This week we have been learning the last of our magic ‘e’ spelling rules for e-e words. We then wrote some super sentences that included some of the magic e words that we have been learning over the last few weeks!

Numeracy and maths: This week have been revising number bonds to 20 and counting in sequences. We also have been learning more about compass points and have been using these to find items on maps!

Health and Wellbeing: as this was our first week back after a long holiday we used our circle time this week to talk about things that we are looking forward to this term in P2 and shared these with the rest of the class.

This week in P2W…

Literacy: This week we were learning about magic e’s superpowers on the letter ‘u’. This week we also practiced writing our tricky words.

Numeracy and Maths: This week we were learning about position and movement. We explored direction and discussed words that help us give directions. We became pirates and had to guide our ship North, South, East and West.

Health and Wellbeing: We continued our focus on kindness and discussed kind acts we had seen or shown that week.

Other learning: This week we have been learning about Easter and the religious storyline Easter. We have also been developing lots of skills through our learning through play. Have a look at our gallery below!
