P1 Tigers Reflective Friday 14th May 2021

Good morning!

We hope you all had a busy and healthy week as ours!

As you know this week we have celebrated Health week and we have learned lots of things.

Health week

We have been learning about how to keep ourselves safe: learning when to call 999, what is safe to eat and what is not safe to eat and touch.

We have been learning about different foods.

We have learned about the wellbeing indicators: safe, healthy, achieving, nurtured, included, active, respected and responsible. Every day we have discussed a couple of the indicators, their meaning and what they mean to each of us.

We have learned about the names of different parts of our body.

And last but not least we had a fab day a Sports Day!!!

Literacy

This week we have learned two final consonant blends: nk and ng. Our tricky words are over and any.

For our nk sound we had lots of pink items at the craft table, we used links to link, we used ink.

For our ng sound we made rings, we painted with string and we sang!

Our writing was ” I feel healthy when”.

We have continued to develop our reading skills at our reading groups.

Home learning ideas

  • Ask your child to read the reading book that we have been working at home this book.
  • Home learning sounds ( This week and last week’s sounds). Practice to make words using all the sounds we have learned so far.

Numeracy

We have continue to work on our numeracy skills through our SEAL programme.

Home learning ideas

Other areas

We have learned about Eid.

P2/3 Golden Treasures Spelling 10th May

This week’s spelling patterns are below if you’d like to work on these at home. We do a dictation activity using these words/patterns each Friday. Please feel free to add words of your own; it isn’t just about learning a “list” of words but understanding how words are built up and spelt.

Team Jewel: revising ir and moving on to ou and oy.

For example: fir, firm, girl; out, shout, pound; boy, toy

Team Gold: adding ing endings (where you don’t need to change the root word)

For example: waiting, sailing, playing, staying, feeling, sticking, shocking

Tricky words: small, follow, picture

Team Treasure: words with the ea spelling that makes an ‘e’ sound and a variety of words that use the ea spelling (challenge list)

Core list: head, read, bread, deaf, thread, weather, feather, heather, leather, earth

Challenge list: overhead, breakfast, heave, dreaming, threading, leave, meat, screamed, reached, weak

Reflective Friday WB 3.5.21

Well done Primary 4WL for a busy and successful short week of learning – in school and at home! 😊 Thank you again to our supportive families and also for helping the pupils upload any Buckstone’s Got Talent entries (well done P4WL, we are so proud of your auditions!) in time for the final this week as well as the prompt returns of the recorded lesson permission slips for Mr. Parry too, this is much appreciated. We have been amazed at the wonderful learning from Learning Together at Home on Thursday and thank the children and families for their efforts!

Please find your child’s Learning Story in their bag today. We have added our Term 3 Overview as well as individual targets for this term in Literacy, Numeracy and Topic. Please share these with your child and return the Learning Stories as soon as you can so that we can gather evidence from our learning this term. Thank you!

Next week is Health Week across the school. All children can come dressed, every day next week, in their PE clothing. Please ensure that this is suitable for all weather (there have been four seasons in one day many days this week!), and includes warm and waterproof layers if appropriate. It might be a good idea to bring a spare bag of clothing to put in our cloakroom and a change of outdoor shoes into school in-case we are out for a longer period of time. On Tuesday morning P4WL will have the opportunity to take part in some Athletics activities as part of our Sports programme, down at the Waterboard field. Please make sure you have your water bottle and appropriate clothing and footwear for this. We are not expecting the children to wear uniform at any point next week but they can choose to if they wish to. Thank you for your support! We hope that the weather may be a little bit more accommodating to our exciting PE and Health plans!

Apologies that there have been some technical difficulties with our school blog system and it has been challenging to upload this post and especially the photos this week. Hopefully they will appear in time after many attempts!

Scroll down to the bottom of this post for a collection of photos 🙂

Week beginning 3.5.21

Parts for our show were given out today, the next challenge is to learn the lines! Learning Stories also came home today with the Term 3 Overview and Literacy and Numeracy targets for the term. Please have a look and return Learning Stories to school on Monday. Next week is Health Week, the children are welcome to wear sports clothes every day 🙂

Miss Collyns

Our spelling rule was words that end in ly, less or ful.

This week we wrote our own stories based on an image showing a scientist developing potions. We had to include correct punctuation, similes, metaphors and interesting vocabulary!

This week we did literacy circles and got separated into groups depending on the book we chose. Everyone had to complete a task. (E.G: literacy luminary and summariser) and then we shared all our work. Here is a video of one group’s discussion:

In numeracy this week, we done some problem solving. We done a daily rigour which was about prime numbers, Italian, money and our 4 operations. We also did a maths mystery which worked on our four operations. We also played some games.

In other areas we did capture the flag in PE and we auditioned for our p7 show. We learnt all about Ramadan and we found out some interesting facts. We also did  another teamwork challenge by making a bridge with any material from the class room. We had to work together and communicate our ideas. The bridge had to be 30cm tall, hold a thesaurus and include at least 5 different materials. Only 2 groups succeeded!

Home Learning

Learn our P7 show lines

Complete some of the tasks from the homework grid

Play Sumdog or practise our times tables

Learning Stories are being sent home today. These have the term 3 overview/newsletter along with targets for this term.

Term 2’s work was completed when Learning Together at Home. We loved seeing the photos and uploaded worksheets on Teams and know that a huge amount of effort was put into completing tasks at home. The pupils have chosen a couple of pieces of work (from school) which they are proud of but if you would like to add any worksheets or photos completed at home then please do.

Hello P2M and Happy Friday!

We’ve had an odd week at school this week with holidays and the school being closed yesterday! I hope you had a fun day Learning Together at Home! Don’t worry if you didn’t join the live session or complete the home learning – we understand the change in routine can make this tricky.

Extra Information

  • Learning Stories have been sent home today – we hope you enjoy seeing your child’s learning from last term and their targets for this term
  • As we moved closer to Primary 3 we are going to start spending a little bit more time sitting at our own desk!
  • We will still be learning through play, have lots of opportunity to lead our learning and make choices too
  • This will help us to be ready for Primary 3 after the summer!
  • Please remember to bring reading books to school every day – especially a Thursday as that’s collection day
  • Some learners in the class have been asking about ‘Show and Tell’. As you can imagine this could become very time consuming and trying to get through everyone would be a tricky task! Although I don’t do ‘Show and Tell’ learners are welcome to share learning and/or achievements from home. If your child would like to do this you are welcome to provide something to display on our ‘Learning At Home’ wall.
  • This term learners will be given the opportunity to do a presentation to the class – more information will be shared nearer the time.
  • All learners are invited to speak and share with the class, during the ‘whole class input’ part of a lesson and during the ‘plenary’ part of a lesson, daily.
  • I hope this reassures everyone that public speaking is a skill we work on daily without the pressure of it feeling like a bigger task

Enjoy the weekend – have fun and stay safe!
