P1 Bright Sparks 26.8.22

sorting to help our fine motor skills
making a creature in the big bricks!

Hello, I hope that you have had a good week. The P1 Bright Sparks have had a fantastic full first week of school! Welcome to our Bright Sparks blog. This blog will be the main avenue of communication from the class, so please read it each week!

This week we have been learning:

Literacy

We have been focussing on developing our fine motor skills to provide us with a foundation for handwriting. We have fine motor skills play around the classroom with peg boards and sorting, as well as numerous writing opportunities of postcards, letters and café orders!

We are also really focussing on listening and talking as we go through our memory boxes. Everybody has done a great job of presenting to the class and listening to our friends. We are excited to hear more next week!

Numeracy

This week, we have explored the numbers 1-5. Bright Sparks are doing a great job of writing the numbers and recognising dot patterns. Next week, we will continue with numbers 6-10 and practise our counting.

Other Areas

Our big focus in this first week has been our health and wellbeing, in particular building relationships. As we learn through play, it has been lovely to see new friendships form and children growing in confidence. We also enjoyed our first PE sessions. We have been thinking about spatial awareness and movement with space bubble games and relays.

Construction area – this helps to develop skills in creative thinking, problem solving and team work. We have built castles, bridges and marble runs!

Loose parts play – the children have been enjoying our house corner, which is mainly used as a café with the loose parts as our food orders.

order up!

Reflective Friday

This week, the Bright Sparks said they enjoyed drawing pictures, playing with their buddies, colouring in their bubble numbers and taking part in PE!

General information:

On Thursdays, Mrs Conlin will be teaching the Bright Sparks.

When bringing in ‘junk’ for modelling, for health and safety reasons we cannot have toilet rolls or egg boxes.

Please put names on all waterbottles, clothing, Tupperware etc!

P1W reflective Friday 26.8.22

Welcome to our first Friday blog. Please do make a point of reading the blog, ideally with your child as this will give them the opportunity to talk with you about their learning and reflect on the week. In order to streamline the sharing of information, the blog will be the main avenue for communication from the class. The main post will be on a Friday, but we may also occasionally post on other days, so please check in regularly or subscribe to an alert for new posts. The school office will continue to email if they have anything to share.

We have had a busy first full week at school. The children have settled well into our routines and have been so independent in the dinner hall

Ready. Respectful. Safe.

Our school charter is Ready, Respectful, Safe and P1 have been discussing what this means and how we can be each of this things. The children have added their names to our tree as a sign that they will always try to be ready to learn, respectful to adults, peers and property and will keep themselves and others safe

.

Independent learning

The children have been developing their skills through independent learning opportunities in class. Here are just a few photographs of what they have been doing.

Literacy

Our literacy focus this week has been on Listening and Talking as we share the memory boxes together. Once the children have shared their box with the class they will bring them home for you to keep. We will continue to take turns to share our boxes a few each day next week. If you have not yet returned the box, please do so on Monday . Thank you.

Numeracy

This week our focus has been on counting to 10, starting and stopping at different places. e.g. start at 3 and stop at 8

We have also been learning to recognise the numerals 0-5

Other areas of the curriculum

In both indoor and Outdoor PE we have been demonstrating our skills in different ways of travelling e.g. jumping with both feet together, skipping, hopping and side stepping.

Our STEM (Science, technology, engineering and maths) area has been very popular this week – we appreciate your donations of clean recycling, but would ask that you do not send in toilet roll tubes ( kitchen roll tubes are fine) or egg cartons (in case of allergies)

Things to do at home and other information

  • Promote independence in dressing – changing/tying shoes, opening snack packets, zipping up coats, sorting inside out sleeves etc
  • Count forward within 10, starting and stopping at different points
  • Look around the environment for examples of written numerals 0-10

Purple folder. Thank you for your support in emptying the purple folders each day. Some children like to attach a keyring or similar to their folder to help them easily identify their own one. This is a great idea, but please only one small – medium sized keyring, as lots of bulky ones make the folder tricky to store in the class basket. Thanks.

A reminder to name all items of clothing and shoes, and to check names on items brought home in case your child accidentally acquires a jumper belonging to someone else.

We would greatly appreciate donations of any unwanted empty or partially used notebooks or diaries ( used pages can be removed). These will be used in our ‘message trolley’. The children enjoy choosing resources from the trolley to use in their independent learning, promoting markmaking and early writing skills.

Our week in Primary 2…

A few quick notices:

  • We use the outdoors in all weathers so please make sure that a waterproof coat is provided and suitable waterproof shoes (wellies/ boots) are worn on wet days.
  • Please leave toys at home, we have lots of lovely resources and activities in school to play with.

Health and Wellbeing

In PE, we have been practising our listening skills and team-work skills by playing games like; don’t wake the sleeping bear and parachute games.

We have used a range of picture books to explore our own diversity and uniqueness, building on the idea that our class is a family and so we must be kind and accepting of one another.

We have explored our own emotions using the colour monster book and have been practising talking about this using our emotions check in station.

Numeracy

We have been practicing counting forwards and backwards, identifying numerals and counting two collections of objects.

We have been using different voices such as, robot, mouse, tiger and singing voice to make counting more fun.

Literacy

We have been carrying out assessments using the common words from the Oxford Reading Tree (ORT) books.  Reading books will be issued very soon!

We have been revising tricky words from Primary 1 and enjoyed taking part in a tricky word scavenger hunt in the playground.

We have been building some words using the digraphs; sh, ch, oo and ee.

Have a lovely weekend 😊

P2 Welcome blog

Welcome to P2!

We hope your children had a great start in P2.

Just a quick message to let you know our PE days:

  • P2MN Tuesday (outdoor) and Friday (indoor).
  • P2D Monday (indoor) and Wednesday (outdoors)

Please come dressed in your PE kit on those days.

It would be great if your child brings one piece of snack each day.

We are looking forward to working with you. If you need anything, it is better if you catch us at the door at the end of the day rather than when we are welcoming the children in the morning. If there is something urgent please send us an email.

Have a lovely weekend!

First Week Back at School

It’s been lovely being back at school this week and finding out what everyone did over the summer. Pupils have enjoyed ‘catching up’ with old friends and getting to know new ones.

This week, all classes in the school have chosen the name of a character from a book as their class name. We decided that our class name, in P3B, should be ‘Bouncing Benjamin Bunnies’.

PE

There will be two days each week when pupils should come to school wearing clothes suitable for participating in PE activities. More information about our regular PE days will be provided soon, but for next week, pupils in P3B should come to school in their PE kit on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Have a great weekend!

Welcome to P6NM!

Welcome to P6NM with Mrs McFarlane and Mrs Nicholson.

The pupils have all settled back well and we have really enjoyed meeting everyone this week.

Important Information

Our PE days will be on Mondays and Wednesdays. On these days, please come to school in comfortable, weather appropriate clothing and footwear, which you will be able to exercise in.

This week we have focussed on the expectations and routines in P6 and lots of Health and Wellbeing.

Here are some highlights from our first few days in Primary Six:

  • We started to read a book called Wonder.
  • Self portraits in the style of the cover for Wonder.
  • Having pictures taken for learning partners.
  • Solving riddles.
  • We decided on our class name (P6 Nanny McPhee).
  • Starting a patchwork quilt for our class charter.
  • Starting ‘rough jotters’.
  • Making birthday cards for our classmates to get throughout this session.
  • We have enjoyed catching up with existing friends and have had the opportunity to widen our friendships even further with our new classmates.
  • We have enjoyed more freedom of movement in the playground at break and lunch.
  • Teachers and pupils getting to know each other.

Have a great weekend,

P1cd Reflective Friday 20.8.21

Welcome to our P1 blog. Every Friday we will post a summary of what we have been learning in Primary one that week along with some suggestions for activities you may wish to do at home to support your child’s learning. Please look at the blog with your child so that they can tell you all about their week.

We may also post on other days if we have any information to pass on, so please check the blog regularly.

The children have had a great start to school – you should be proud of how well they have started to settle. We are looking forward to a wonderful year with them.

Have a look around our classroom…

Additional information

  1. On Monday we will collect in the bags of spare clothes and store them in the classroom.
  2. Indoor shoes will be left in school overnight.
  3. There is no need to provide a ‘gym bag’ with PE kit as the children should come to school dressed in outdoor PE clothes on their class PE day  – we will let you know when these times have been confirmed.
  4. Mid morning snack should be something nutritious and tasty which the children can eat independently within 10 minutes
  5. Please could packed lunches be brought in a named lunch bag ( preferably one with a handle)

Learning together at home Monday 7th June

Welcome back to our online learning. We hope you had a great weekend and managed to find a way to enjoy the sunshine.

Every day this week we will post our blog the evening before (therefore there will be three posts today, this one, one for todays learning and one for tomorrow’s learning) . We think that this will help parents to be ready for the next day. Please don’t worry if you can’t do the home learning, we rather have happy families and children than stressed and unhappy ones!

We will provide an activity for Literacy, one for Numeracy and one other area a day. Please work in the way that best suits your family needs and keep in touch if you need anything (via the school email address). We also understand that some children might be ill therefore your child should not be doing work when unwell and should not try to the work that hasn’t been done while unwell.

We will meet every day at 9.30 and we will send you the link for this meeting on a daily basis. Microphones should be muted when joining the meeting. Please for today’s meeting bring paper and pencil/pen or whiteboard and whiteboard pen.

Feel free to post your child’s work on your child’s e-learning journal. We will politely ask you to only do one post a day ( you can add up to five photos on each post!).

Your reading book is already available on your child’s e- learning journal. We are aware that this way you have to look at two websites however this is the only way we can keep your child’s information private and available to you. As you know it is only once a week that we provide a reading book so you don’t need to look every day on the e-journals for home learning information.

We will post again at 8.30 with today’s work.

Looking forward to seeing you all at 9.30!

Mrs Cross and Mrs de Bonrostro
